    Changes on the horizon

    http://content-nz.cricinfo.com/ci-ic...ry/350178.html

The ICC is making a couple of changes or atleast visiting a number of ideas..

It also recommended the ICC considers a Test league, or periodic play-off for the top two sides in the Test Championship.

what are your thoughts re: above content.

Shocking, and I hope the idea is thrown-out ASAP.

Fantastic! Finally, I applaud the ICC to do what they're supposed to do - try to improve cricket.

    Faffing

New rules at International level need to be like medicine. Properly trialed rather than just being thown on the market.

Who cares about new powerplay rules? Im all for technology being used but research it properly.

Its messing around for the sake of it.

You know - I agree actually. They should try it out in ODIs first for a couple years, and then move it to Tests.

But really, considering the alternative, it's such a huge leap from the status quo, that I'll take it. I don't think anyone will miss those when they're gone.

Why experiment at International level? Do the research at FC level

International cricket needs best practices applied and only change when a weight of evidence suggests a better approach is available.

Nothing devalues a sport more than rule changes back and forth every season without proper thought and investigation done.

Just look what a 'super' idea super-sub was

The super sub was pretty much trailed in domestic cricket in Australia, but with 12 players and no subing. Was actually quite successful as it reduced the number of bits and pieces players and more specialist were played.

One of the best rules CA used was only having 3 players outside circle in over 15-30. It did improve the quality of cricket during those overs. But like super sub, then ICC turned a good idea into something crap with Powerplays.

What is the point of trailling it at domestic level, if they just alter it again at International level. Might as well just start it off at International level if they are going to keep changing it once it gets to International level.

I like the idea of the test playoff or league. Been calling for it myself for years.

On the other side of the spectrum, a natural aptitude to money with green coming to signify money and possibly even *********!

The batting powerplay has been used in Australian domestic one day games for at least a season now.

yea the batting powerplay is great.

it adds an extra dimension instead of the fielding side using both powerplays together.
