I tell you, the best is a team that never played together...

(Cue someone finding a game where that side did play together - wouldn't be totally amazed if it played in the 1999 WC actually)

1983 side was all abt fun. the mavericks, the underdog just kept on winning and winning until they lifted the cup
1985 side was probably better, almost an invincible look to it
2003 easily the top side barring Australia, who were the only ones to beat it
2008 Dhoni's young guns, along with Tendulkar
Having watched the highlights [even though they only show the good parts] of the '83 side and the '85 side, I can say the the 1985 side is probably the best ever India side, even though there is nothing like winning the WC and any side that does that is taken as the best .... the 1985 side had Gavaskar as captain, had some nice spinners and all-rounders, Srikant was doing Jayasuriya at that time, Shastri got the champion of champions award, Kapil was smashing runs, the catching was brilliant
I am going go for the 1985 side coz of the invincible look it had

It's pretty similar, but as I say - I actually feel the side of mid-2002 was stronger than that of early-2003, as Sehwag was opening with huge success and Tendulkar batting at four with possibly even greater success. Thereafter, Tendulkar was put back to the top of the order, Ganguly moved from it, and Sehwag became useless again.

1983 World Cup Winners- Not quite a strong team, won against overconfident WI, but a World Cup win, nothing less. The one good thing about this team was that there were very few (almost just one) star players but they combined well in a match.
1985 Champions- Over-rated team. They profited when the Australian team was struggling to cope with a star exodus.
2003 World Cup Finalists- Over-rated, even more. They scratched over Kenya twice and faced several teams on a downward trend. You know they're over-rated when they were pulverised by the Australians twice, and went rapidly downhill after that.
2008 CB Winners- Not quite an accomplished team, especially because it was only a triangular. But this one involved World Champions Australia, and was played in Australia. The team had a good combination of stars, workmen and punchers, and has looked a very good team for one that's just starting off. Matching the feats of the 1983 and 1985 teams will be a tough task, and we know it.
