Ricky Ponting is a better batsman than Don Bradman

Or so some would have you believe.

This is a thread, really, to highlight how good we have it here on CricketWeb. Sure, sometimes we feel we shouldn't have to be debating what we're debating and are at ends with the reality that some of our members could feel how they do about certain topics, but when you compare it to some of the debates that are forced out at other sites, well.. I'll let the posts do the talking.

in my opinion Ricky Ponting is a better batsman than Bradman ever was.
Bradman, like the 'Immortals', will live on through the ages, because in their day they were unrivalled.
I'm not sure how Bradman can disagree. He died a little over 7 years ago.
Because he is in my opinion. His stats prove it.

Bradman was incredible, don't get me wrong.....but Ponting has him.
Bradman never batted against specialist spin bowlers.
He never faced a fast bowler who could bowl more than 130 kph.
Ponting led Australia to equal the world record of consecutive Test Matches won (16) & was still undefeated after 17 (16 wins, 1 draw).
Led Australia to a 5-nil Ashes whitewash, the first time that has happened in 86 years. Led Australia to a 1st ever 3 consecutive World Cup titles. Unbeaten in 29 World Cup matches, with a winning streak of 23.
Has a winning percentage of 77% since taking over as captain, which is beter than Steve Waugh's 71%. Holds the Australian record for most Test runs in a calendar season in 2005 (1544 runs). Became the 1st player to score a century in both innings of his 100th Test match. He is Australia's highest Test century maker (33). At the start of the 07-08 summer, he had 9368 runs, 3rd behind Border & Waugh.
Last year he took a clean sweep. Test player of the Year, One-Day player of the Year & the Allan Border medal.

Bradman does not boast his achievements.
Bradman was great, but no longer the greatest.

It's funny...each era people throw up a greatest player & yet people are afraid to knock down the predecessor. Thinking it is an insult to the player.

Bradman is not the greatest cricket has seen...in time, Ponting more than likely won't be either. But it doesn't take away from what they achieved in their time.
Excuse me for not being a follower like everyone else & toeing the line when it comes to opinions of who is the greatest.
Majority of people are too afraid to say that a modern player is better than the current "greatest".
It's not an insult or lack of respect towards Bradman to say that Ponting is better. It's actually a mark of respect because it took so long for someone to come along that is actually better.
And what is the one thing we all have in common?
Not a single one of us saw Bradman play & yet you carry on as if whoever rates Bradman as the best player are therefore deemed to be the best judge of it as they have a clear view on it. Well done.
You are clearly a schmuck.
Reading through some of those posts really made me appreciate the validity of a Ponting v Tendulkar thread... :p

Haha, I mean I've seen the odd few examples of this sort of crap before, mostly concerning the likes of Tendulkar ("best ever") and Dravid ("selfish") but it's always funny to see more.

Go on Richard, over to that forum, correct every single one of them. I see another 60,000 posts - better still, 60,000 posts that I don't have to read.

I found a counter post which is even better.

You can’t be serious with this discussion can you Brian....Has anybody ever managed to take a look at a test wicket lately?, could anybody possible imagine what Don Bradmans and about another 20 odd Australian batsman from the first half of the last century would have made on the current wickets...have a good, good think about it.
Don Bradman would have made 400 in a day on these current Australian wickets and a few of his team mates would have made 250-300 in a day.
Ricky Ponting would not have made the Australian Second 11 during the Bradman Era, nor would he have averaged more than 20 against the great West Indies bowling attack of the late 70s to mid 80s.
