Dravid Signs For Scotland

Here is my report for Cricketweb:

Dravid Signs For Scotland

Veteran Indian batting star, Rahul Dravid has signed a one year deal with new National League side, Scotland as their overseas player along with South African all rounder John Kent.

Dravid who averages 53.46 in Tests and an impressive 39.15 in ODI's will be a huge gain for the new, inexperienced club. Due to Rahul Dravid's extremely busy schedule with India, the idea of playing with just a OD side in the English competition was extremely attractive for him.

The Indian vice captain will make his debut on June 1st, against Hampshire. Dravid was vice captain of the Indian team which reached the World Cup final in South Africa this year.

I find it interesting that Scotland isn't classified as a country, which would mean that they would have to find players of scottish heritage.

Well in some ways it does...I mean from a Scottish players point of view it would be great to bat with a guy with one of the best batting techniques in international cricket.

But I was just thinking that Scotland is more of an invitational country for this OD Championship & not a county like the others so they shouldn't really be able to ask other international players to play for them.

Wouldn't they just get pounded into nothingness if they're just invitational...

Is it kind of how they were for WC99?

Well they're exactly that...Invitational because they're not really part of the County set-up..they don't play in the first class comp.

I really think the whole idea of Scotland joining the OD championship is for them to get some decent cricket & for the sport to grow in Scotland.

That's exactly it, and since all the counties have overseas players, it's only fair for Scotland to.

I think someone of Dravid's skill and nature could do a great deal for coaching the Scottish players, and am glad they've attracted someone so high profile.

Dravid's more of a 4D player although he's done well in ODIs lately. I'd have thought they would want someone who is a OD specialist since he's only playing OD games. Someone like Bevan. Also someone who was available more often.

I always felt Bevan's real talent came more from pure guts and mental strength rather than pure skill. And you can't teach guts...so I see why they went for Dravid, but still any good player is good enough :P

Well Brinkley's experience is showing well so far.

GOod effort by Scotland to keep Durham to 55-2 after 17 overs.

Durham seems to have a very poor batting lineup. Why did they pick two overseas bowlers when they already have Harmison for the early part of the season and Vince Wells too?

I think Dravid was picked b'coz the Indians living there wanted him. I read that the Indians living there contributed major part of the money to get Dravid to play for Scotland. I personally would have liked AA though. With that money AA would have played for the whole season and he could have come in to bat at 5 and been a strike bowler.

I think its a good move, dravid can work well along with some of the batsmen in scotland , and dravid can improve on his o.d skills aswell ,

and any news is he keeping , although i doubt if he would , but he should i reckon if hes going to be an o.d.i keeper for longer just keep training your skills in the o.d level

No matter what the standard of the Durham line up is - 141-7 with less than 5 overs to go is a top effort by the Scots.

Yeah top effort from Scotland. But i can't understand the logic of the Durham management to pick two overseas bowlers when batting was their main problem. I think anything above 150 will be tough for Scots. I have a feeling that Srinath will perform well from this match.

Well well well.

Scotland win by 5 wickets, and have reched their target after just one game!
