Current (beg April 2008) World XIs by age

I thought it may be interesting to breakdown World XIs by age.

So using 1st April 2008

21 and under XI
22-26 XI
27-31 XI
32 and over XI

Id be interested to see the demographics. Id expect the older teams to be heavily Australian based and the younger ones less so.

Ill post my teams in a bit.

Can't think of many. Stuart Broad is one, but beyond that, I'm stuck.
Sharma's the obvious one, but then I'm out without using cricinfo.

Blokes like Joe Denly & Phil Hughes who haven't played tests but will should come into consideration for this team tho.

I know Sharma is only 20 but he hasn't played a Test. Same with Suresh Raina, they've both played ODIs but not Tests. So if you want to count both formats, they'd both be competing for a spot.

Piyush Chawla has played both ODIs and Tests, so Chawla and Sharma would be two who'd make it.

some candidates for the 32+ team

tendulkar
dravid
ganguly
ponting
laxman
hayden

For 21 and under:

I think we have a spinner and two members of a Test bowling attack:

  1. Chawla
  2. Broad
  3. Sharma

We have the following ODI players:
  1. Raina
  2. Sharma

Uthappa is 22, or I thought he'd make it.

Pretty sure he has. :p

I might have Raina in there somewhere. He is an excellent fielder too, so he could also be the 12th man if he can't crack the top 11.

Not looked any anything posted in here apart from the post that said a 21 and under team is tough.

Yes it is but its possible. Here is what I got

21 and Under XI

1 Tamim Iqbal (Bang)
2 Kapugedera (SL)
3 Junaid Siddique (Bang)
4 Piyush Chawla (Ind)
5 Shakib Al Hasan (Bang)
6 Mushfiqur Rahim (Bang) (wkt)
7 Southee (NZ)
8 Stuart Broad (Eng)
9 Cremer (Zim)
10 Ishant Sharma (Ind)
11 Shahadat Hossain (Bang)

Enamul Haque jnr maybe unlucky to miss out. Would like to have included Elton Chigumbura but he is 17 days too old.

EDIT- Gah, someone beat me to a 21 and under squad. :@

Piyush Chawla batting at #4? He's a spinner. :p I would also say Rohit Sharma is better than Siddique. And I'd take Praveen Kumar over Cremer - we already have a spinner is Praveen seems to be better at both FC and international level. Though I've no clue about international players who are 21 or under from other places, so there might be some I'm missing.

He has a FC batting average of over 25 and to quote cricinfo

Cricinfo said:
at the 2006 Under-19 World Cup the legspinning allrounder lived up to his reputation
Thats good enough to qualify as a batsman for this team

I must add that I made it that all my players selected had played a Test.
