Adam Gilchrist 10 yrs before he played test cricket...

Sorry if this has been posted already but I found it very interesting...
Note he didnt have the very high grip on the bat back in those days.

It's interesting to watch...but he already mentioned this stint in a few of his promotional cricket ads.

There's also a good piece in this month's Spin magazine, written by his one-time Richmond captain Chris Goldie. When he joined the club Goldie told him "I'm a batsman-keeper as well, but you can play in the Sunday team, and if you're any good you can play as a batsman on Saturdays."

Suffice to say it didn't take long before he was playing in every game.

Christ, 11 hundreds... is it the picture quality or does his action appear a bit jerkier? Maybe because it's the slowness of the wicket and the bowlers.

Also, anyone else think he looks nearer 30 than 17 in those pictures?

I said when Gelman posted the vid the first time that he doesn't look a hell of a lot different to how he did when he came onto the World stage, and he obviously speaks brilliantly for his age. But I don't think he quite looks Ryder-esque.

Yeah, think so. IIRC his mother gave him a pair of gloves when he was 12 or so.

He was about this age when I saw him while I was at his dad's cricket camp in Lismore.

Interestingly, in his junior days a guy from our club played rep with Gilly and he used to keep and Gilly batted. Gilly went on to the Aussie team and this guy discovered drugs and alcohol.
R.I.P Craigos, you were a champion bloke. One of the best

I think she actually had them welded to a headband to use as earmuffs.

Did Gilly move rep teams back then as well, when he wasn't given the gloves back then as well?

    Nah, I don't think so.

I think you'll find he moved from NSW to WA to actually get a start in the team regularly. A cricketing giant by the name of Greg Dwyer (if my memory serves me correctly!?) stood in his way at NSW.

Was Phil Emery, but he was getting a run as specialist bat at the back end of last season before he moved though.
