My side
1. MP Vaughn 2. HH Gibbs 3. JH Kallis 4. SR Tendulkar 5. BC Lara 6. R.Dravid 7. A.Stewart w/k 8. SM Pollock 9. S.Bond 10. S.Akhtar 11. M Muralitharan Few changes, Dravid would not be my keeper, Alec Stewart is IMO a top player and in a strong side would go well... Shane Bond and Shoaib Akhtar are neccessary, their records are impeccable against Australia... |

This idea of Aus facing rest of world is not going to work.If you want a good contest then have Australia play a 5 test match series in India. I can guarantee you that the series would be a thriller, as beating India in India remains a dream for this Aussie team and even though India would have an upper hand in such a series, Australia are such a strong team that they cannot be defeated easily, as such it would be a close contest8D .

Also, if it was the best against the Aussies, wouldn't Harbhajan get a call?

Not sure if I can get down to an eleven, so I'll think up a RoW squad (combined Tests and ODIs):
This is a Preliminary Squad of 30(+1) - Blame the ICC ![]() Openers (5) Michael Vaughan Mark Richardson Herschelle Gibbs Sanath Jayasuriya Marvan Atapattu Batsmen (9) Brian Lara Ramnaresh Sarwan *Stephen Fleming Andy Flower Sachin Tendulkar Rahul Dravid Saurav Ganguly Virender Sehwag Inzamam-ul-Haq Wicketkeepers (3) Mark Boucher Rashid Latif Kumar Sangakkara All-Rounders (5) Andy Flintoff Chris Cairns Jacques Kallis Shaun Pollock Ajit Agarkar Spinners (3) Harbhajan Singh Saqlain Mushtaq Muttiah Muralitharan Fast Bowlers (6) Andrew Caddick Mervyn Dillon Shane Bond Makhaya Ntini Shoaib Akhtar Chaminda Vaas

We are selecting a team to play against Aussies, i.e against ONE TEAM, and whoever has been doing well against them got to be considered for selection. No point in picking up a player that has a good overall record but an awful one against Australia.Thats is the reason as to why most of the people has Shane Bond in their team, coz of his impressive record against Australia!! And i don't know about Caddick, but i know that Akhter prefered remarkably well in the last test series against Aus, and even in onedayers he has been doing well against them!
