Ganguly to sign up with Espn-Star

Now that would be a shameless thing to do on the part of Sourav after asking his players not to give interviews to them after the comments made by Sidhu. It shows that money can do any thing. But you expect something better as he comes from a royal family and he is very rich. Anyway nice to know that Akram and Jonty are going to be signed up too. Hope that Jonty also does commentary after his stinct with Gloucs is completed.

ESPN-STAR WANT TO SIGN UP GANGULY

Partha Rudra in Dhaka

April 17, 2003

After signing up superstar Sachin Tendulkar, ESPN-Star Sports, leading sports broadcasters, are keen to have Indian captain Sourav Ganguly as a member of their line-up. Roy Hume, Director of Cricket, ESPN-Star, approached the left-hander this morning with the offer and is confident the deal will be signed by Monday.

Needless to say, the deal would be worth millions of Indian rupees. Said a member of ESPN-Star, "Having someone like Ganguly, who is frank and fearless, would add tremendous value to the channel. We already have Tendulkar on our side, and India is our number one market. If we get someone like Ganguly, which we are sure we will get, then it will be a coup. We will have a line-up that will be of tremendous value to the Indian viewer."

About Ganguly's role with the channel, he said, "It will be similar to that of Tendulkar's role. He will be given his own show, and he will appear on special features and interviews to talk about past matches and other great players. He may even do a few interviews for us."

ESPN-Star have already approached South African Jonty Rhodes and Pakistan's Wasim Akram, and both are keen to get on board. "Rhodes is known and respected all over the cricket-playing world for the enthusiasm he brings to the game. He is very keen to sign up and so is Akram. But with Akram, we will have to wait for one year as he wants to finish off his county commitments," said a member of the ESPN-Star team.

Coming back to Ganguly, he said, "We have had a series of meetings with the Indian captain who is very open to the idea. It will be done by this Monday."

Errrm, doesn't Jonty have county commitments with Gloustershire too?

Well the indian team is rich and certain players in there are richer and just keep getting richer..
Well, only a select few...and I'd be wrong if I said they didn't deserve it...

And I think Jonty Rhodes once said, when asked, that Commentary, coaching or umpiring were out of his book for the future...said he'd be doing something non-cricket...

Well at the mo Jonty's till in cricket. He's playing County Cricket, so his non-cricket future obviously hasn't arrived yet.

They already announced a program with Sachin on his birthday on April 24th. Since Jonty Akram have almost retired it would be great if they do commentary also after this season.
