The Zimbabwe Squads to England have been named:

Heath Streak (capt)
Tatenda Taibu (vice-capt)
Grant Flower
Dion Ebrahim
Mark Vermeulen
Barney Rogers
Sean Ervine
Andy Blignaut
Mluleki Nkala
Stuart Carlisle
Ray Price
Travis Friend
Vusimuzi Sibanda
Douglas Hondo
Douglas Marillier

Note:
1/Taibu's vice-captaincy. This really shocked me. I would have thought Grant Flower.
2/Ervine/Nkala- Oh those persistent selectors.:)
3/Good to see Carlisle back on the scene.
4/Who's Sibanda?

Additional ODI players:

Gary Brent
Waddington Mwayenga
Stuart Matsikenyere
Charles Coventry
Richard Sims

Note:
1/Good to see Brent back. I always thought he was one of their better ODI bowlers.
2/Aside from Coventry, any info about the others? Rik?
3/They've finally dropped Wishart for the one-hit-wonder he is.

I was just going to write a thread about this, so i will reply..

Not surprised in Taibu getting the vice captaincy, I severely doubt that if Streak were to get injured, Taibu would take over the captaincy. I think they just want him to get a bit of experience.

Although my name is not Rik! Ill answer a few questions

Stewart Matsikenyeri is a middle order batsman who has played a couple of ODI's i think.. He might also keep wicket if needed

Gary Brent - Is a very English line and length bowler who gets some swing. he is not quick, but if conditions suit him he could be dangerous, adds experience, he has been around for a while

Richard Sims - I think he is a tall off spinner...

Surprised Gavin Ewing isnt in there somewhere, he hit 212 against Midlands and has a good batting average..

Doesn't surprise me at all. I've had Tatenda down as a future skipper for quite some time. Serving the "apprenticeship" as Bob Woolmer would put it. Grant will quit soon.

2/Ervine/Nkala- Oh those persistent selectors.

That or total lack of talent in ZIM

3/Good to see Carlisle back on the scene.

That will be that double-ton he hit last week, then.

4/Who's Sibanda?

A token black player, I expect.

Matsikenyeri is picked on colour alone, I think. He was picked in the World Cup as a specialist batsman and batted at ten. He also bowled three very expensive overs.

I'm very surprised Gavin Ewing isn't there as well, batting average of 58.71 in FC and bowling at 29, just scored that double ton and took 7for in a game last week. Is young and talented and his batting has surprised him because he was allways thought of as a bowler who bats a bit, but you don't keep scoring more and more just by luck.

Sims...not that impressive really, as Langeveldt said he's tall and he can bat a bit.

Matsikenyeri is a batsman who can keep wicket, bowls occasional off-spin. Came into the side in the World Cup and batted at 8 and 9 I think...odd for someone who's thought of as a batsman.

Sibanda - I have no clue, never even heard of him before.

Brent - Medium-Fast seamer, just line and length, can hit the ball around, sorta like a right handed Bryan Strang.

Mwayenga - Nothing special really, medium pacer, nothing really amazing, I think he's just one of the token coloured players.

The selectors have got it into their heads that they have to play Ervine in every ODI now even though he has shown enough times that his bowling is just not effective enough. Nkala...not again :!( :!( :(

Barney Rogers might be a surprise, he's not really had much of a chance Internationally as he's not a OD player and he was given a go in the ODI side.

I keep asking myself when I look at this squad...what were they on? They've gone back to old failures I thought they had finally realised weren't good enough...also there is one big problem...WHERE IS GAVIN RENNIE??? (They need an opener in Tests...why not him? Ebrahim...at the moment he's not consitant enough). Carlisle is in the squad again which is good, he scored 209* the other day too :)

Its such a pity that they have to pick so many token black players, who are really not worth coming, they wont play a test match anyway..

At least guys in SA like Ontong, Prince and Peterson are quite good players in their own right

As a bowler, I think Mbangwa is better than Ervine. He's definitely tighter. Also, what ever happened to Bryan Strang? He was one of the better bowlers in my estimation.

It's unfortunate that the phrase "what ever happened" is used so much in relation to Zimbabwean cricket. :(

Why is everyone against Ervine? :!( He had a very good Sharjah Cup in Zim terms and put up some good perfrmances in the WC too. How can you compare him to Nkala? :!(

Mbangwa I have no clue, he's just not been picked except for the A side. He's been commentating quite a bit though.

Strang retired from Zimbabwean cricket and moved away, I'm not sure where.

Because although he has slogged out a few runs, his bowling is as useless as Collingwood's, and his bowling is the reason he is in the side.

But didn't he bat at 5 in Sharjah Cup. In Sharjah Cup he either performed well with his ball or bat . Where as Nkala does nothing either with the bat nor with the ball. Also who do you think is better than who is not tthere in the Squad.

Says who that his bowling is his reason for being in the side?

Looking at his career I'd say he's in as a number 6 or 7 batsman who bowls 6 or 7 overs where needed.

Didn't I say Ewing? Rennie? Sheesh if you want someone who is only a part time bowler then you could go for Craig Evans in Ervine's place, he's a much better bat too. :)
