Battle of the Subcontinental Seamers not from Pakistan

shortpitched713

International Captain
In commemoration of the imminent split in World cricket I have decided to start this battle (and maybe another couple) to highlight the rich tradition and depth of cricket in the subcontinent, as well as seriously compare some of the lesser renowned amongst our cricketers.

So to start this battle here are some of the entries (yes, this is a serious battle thread):

Kapil Dev
Chaminda Vaas
Irfan Pathan
Manoj Prabhakar
Javagal Srinath
Sharma Madan Lal
Nuwan Zoysa
Zaheer Khan
Champaka Ramanayake
Venkatesh Prasad
Lasith Malinga
Mashrafe bin Mortaza
Roger Binny
Rumesh Ratnayake
Asantha De Mel
Ravindran Ratnayake
Mohammad Nissar
Syed Rasel
S Sreesanth
Munaf Patel
Ajit Agarkar
Amar Singh

Feel free to add whomever you think might be worthy.

There's only been 3 or 4 very good pace bowlers from the subcontinent excluding Pakistan.

Rumesh Ratnayake, Asantha De Mel and Ravindran Ratnayake are missing. They were the best SL produced excluding Vaas, especially Rumesh.

Out of that list

1. Kapil Dev
2. Chaminda Vaas
3. Javagal Srinath
4. Zaheer Khna
5. Rumesh Ratnayake are the top 5 for me.

Guys like Md. Nissar is missing, as quick or even quicker than Harold Larwood on his day.

Updated the list. We have 17 so far and hopefully we can start the first round with 32. Will wait till at least 24 hours from my first post if we need to shuffle people in and out.

By the way, does anyone have their hands on SS's randomizer program? If so that would be a great help.

This includes both, although if you rate players more on one form of the game than the other, then you're welcome to vote that way as well.

Nissar would no doubt be mortified that his wonderful partner in crime Amar Singh hasn't gotten a mention yet. Nominate him.

hmm, Nissar is interesting. Leaving aside whether I believe him to equal in pace to Larwood he brings an dilemma for this battle.

Whilst Pakistan cricketers are excluded from this battle, IIRC he was born in what is now Pakistan and he represented India only as Pakistan didnt exist at the time.

The dad in "Bend it Like Beckham" was apparently pretty sharp.

Agree with the above post re. Rumesh Ratnayake. Thought he was pretty good in his time.

Manoj Prabakhar for a mention here as well, but really, it's gonna come down to Vaas v Kapil isn't it?

How about Dilhara Fernando, Ravindra Pushpakumara, Abey Kuruvilla and Debashish Mohanty? We see a net cast very wide here. Honestly, though, it will end in a battle of five of the nominees, while the rest just make up the numbers.
