John Traicos 1969/1970 to 1992/1993 is longer.Well the longest gap between Tests was 19 years.
Anyway, the longest would surely be Jack Hobbs?
Yes, of course, durr, I knew that, how on Earth did I forget?Wilfred Rhodes, started in 1899 and finished in about 1930
Made his Test debut at the same time as Victor Trumper, not sure if Headley was in his last TestYes, of course, durr, I knew that, how on Earth did I forget?
A span of five separate decades!
Probably not the best, but easily the most prolific. Sydney Barnes is far and away the best domestic bowler ever IMO.And in between time took a truckload of wickets for Yorkshire in the C.C. Over 4000 in his first-class career. Surely would have to be the best first-class bowler of all-time?
6 players have played longer than him, while 3 have both played for 22 years which is the same as Hobbs.Well the longest gap between Tests was 19 years.
Anyway, the longest would surely be Jack Hobbs?
Well 4, really. But don't get me started on that debtae.Yes, of course, durr, I knew that, how on Earth did I forget?

Disagree here.I agree with that. The 30's start with 1st January 1931
Well yeah, himDennis Brian Close y'mean.
Astonishing that he was still captaining Yorkshire's 2nd XI into his 60s, over 50 years after his First-Class debut.
Okay.Disagree here.
The 1930s started on January 1 1930 - 1930 is not a year in the 1920s.
However, the fourth decade of the 20th Century began January 1 1931.
Would be if it was true, which I dont think it isDennis Brian Close y'mean.

Should not mention that name on this forum, otherwise C_C will be back telling us how Holding humilated himWould be if it was true, which I dont think it is
Over 50 years would have him playing in the 2000s. That didnt happen as far as Im concerned.
In the early-mid 90s he captained the Yorkshire Academy team in the Yorkshire League as almost a non-bowling and non-batting mentor.
Im guessing when people make reference to him captaining the 2nds in his 70s (as some do) they are a) getting confused and calling the Academy the 2nds and b) trying to make things sound longer than it is.
