well both are hard hitting openers and thus that they can bat is not in doubt and both have slightly more than innocuous offspin that has seen them both bowl for their teams but do either of them qualify as all rounders

Both are decent enough bowlers to qualify as all rounders, very good all rounders is a better question though.

Both are clearly allrounders in ODIs. In Tests its more debatable, but I'd say that Jayasuria is definitely more of an allrounder in that format.

No way IMO. Both are clearly batsmen who bowl, but nowhere near as well as they bat.

Rather futile discussion, all this tagging business.

I'd claim Jaya is a better all-rounder than Flintoff, but if someone argues that Jaya isn't an all-rounder...

Absolutely no chance whatsoever.

Better batsman, yes. Not even remotely close as a bowler.

Yeah both can be rated as very decent Odi all-rounders but their bowling isn't even anywhere near test standard.

both are odi allrounders, jayasuriya clearly the better of the two...i doubt their bowling has had much impact in tests...

Both are value-added batsmen. While neither can make their teams as frontline bowlers (although Gayle can, given the West Indians' spin options), they can support their four frontliners quite well. They also score very quickly, and are reasonably good fielders (Sanath is very effective, even at his age), so they've got everything going as all-rounders. They'd walk into most teams (especially Indian) on their all-round skills.
