er op, been aving a few lagers and I as now come to the conclusion that Jacques Kallis is one of the great batsmen of our ere age.

I would even be so bold to rate him among the top 20 batsmen of all time.

Heck, my ratings even put him at no.6 of all time after the Pak series. A bit too far IMO. Bugger it!

If you don't think so, well what else as the poor chap got to do? Score faster? Ow about Ken?

Anyways, I ave said me peace 'ere.

One could make the argument that his slow batting in the last Test cost the South Africans a win...But I'll not fuel any fires...

One could also argue that if he had scored 0 then the South Africans could have lost the Test. He scored at virtually the same rate as Graeme Smith, but I bet people don't bag Smith because he batted slowly.

I gladly will. Given the situation, both batsmen should've batted faster. Worst comes to worse, they get out, and there are plenty of other batsmen to back them up down the order. Striking at 44 in the second innings when you're trying to push home an advantage is just not good enough.

Look how quickly Ponting and Langer scored in the second innings of the First Ashes test. That's how it's gotta be done.

Have another couple of drinks and then review his allrounder status ;)

Sobers: 93 Tests, 8032 runs @ 57.78 --- 235 wkts @ 34.03, SR 91.9
Kallis: 109 Tests, 8851 runs @ 57.10 --- 216 wkts @ 31.64, SR 67.2

Not as good as Sobers, not really close IMO. You have to take into consideration some of the substandard sides that Kallis has played against, and dominated, which really boost his stats. Obviously still a fine all-rounder, but not quite in Sober's class.

Much better bowler, not in the same league as a batsman though.
I wouldn't read too much into his average. He could have averaged 50 with the bat easierly if he played as specialist or put his mind to his batting more often.

Still think he doesnt get the respect he deserves as an allrounder...
Top 10 of all time easily for mine, and pretty close to the top 5 :)

But he didn't though, and you can only judge players on what they acheived, not what they could've.

w.t.f. happened last night??

I don't remember creating this thread...

Anyway, I'll weigh in and say there is Sobers, daylight, then a group comprising of Imran, Kallis, and Botham, for the greatest allrounder of all time.

For batting, I'd say Kallis is fairly close to the top 20 test batsmen of all time.

Haha seriously, why would you post after you've been drinking? What if you did something embarrassing?

Kallis is a douche therefore he should be disqualified from any "greatest of all time" discussions. End of.
