I think Hodge is being picked because he's the front runner for a Test Spot. He showed in the 20/20 that he's a very good batsmen. It's a shame so far in his ODI career he's been either very bad or very good depending on the series.

Haddin worthy of a specialist batting spot, if you ask me. Hodge has been persisted with, but proved too stodgy at crunch time. Pity that we had to wait till it cost us a game.

Haddin will be in for next match for sure.
Hodge looks out of form.

I don't want to sound like as if i hate Hodgey because i don't he is a superb player and he has piled on the runs at the domestic level to prove that, its just a shame that he hasn't been able to make a mark for himself in Odi cricket and TBH he has had a lot of chances to do that atm he looks in dire form and it makes no sense in playing him ahead of Haddin who is in gunning form, but i have a feeling that Australia are probably thinking about using Hodgey as one of the openers for the next test they play, otherwise i can't see any reason behind him getting so many chances.

Paine would also be infront of Hodge as Test opener as well.
Paine wouldn't be in the top ten tbh.

Haddin should have the jobn for sure. Number 6 should be a good batter and a good hitter. Hodge isn't much of a hitter, takes too long to get in for number 6.

If it were a case of picking those most likely to win the next game it'd clearly be Haddin, but it seems (sensibly IMO) that Australia aren't taking that mindset, and are more trying to allow everyone to score, thereby saying "Haddin's already got in the runs, let's give Hodge some more chance to do so".

And given that scoring runs here is - wrongly, but undeniably nonetheless - probably going to impact upon Hodge's chances of a Test spot, I hope he scores some soon.

Well, I haven't got in the runs for Australia yet, when do I get a chance to do so?

I'm a fan of Haddin playing as he's proved very useful in that position already. Moving Hodge further down the order when he's obviously struggling meant we just so happened to have someone who couldn't get the ball away when it mattered most the other night against India.

Given Hodge is not playing in state games at the moment due to him being in India, it may be the selector's only chance to have a look at him, but it'd be nice if he was picked for actually doing something.

Nah I don't think so, Paine's largely unproven, and fell away pretty badly after his roaring early season form.
Yeah I know but considering that you would think Australia would be looking for a long term opening option and Rogers and Jaques both got injuried then I can see Paine getting a run. But most likely they would go to Hussey first. Still reckon Paine would get a run as Test opener infront of Hodge or Katich.
