    Warne to retire

Well i just read on baggygreen that he is expeected to retire from one day cricket after the world cup. Then a matter of minutes later on the tv they said he has retired.
To me this is a huge shock. has anyone heard before of Warnes plans to reitre yet?
and does this mean the end of his test career is getting closer?

Maybe he's doing it to prolong his test career, I bet he would love another trip to India from a professional point of view.

He has will retire from One dayers, after the World Cup.

This will hopefully add about another 4 years onto his Test match life.

I must admit I'd known from along the grapevine that he was going to retire for a few weeks now.

It's not much of a shock when you consider he has had major shoulder surgery once and dislocated it as well.

I think he is doing the opposite of Allan Donald, and trying to prolong his career by giving up one form of the game. AD also suffered an injury before he made the decision.

It is all to do with the huge workload on modern players, I wouldnt be surprised if we see full on specialist players who only play ODI's or Test matches in the future.

I dunno, I get the feeling that this won't prolong his Test career by much. He's always said that he wouldn't want to play forever and would probably look to retire at 35 or thereabouts.

My opinion? Him not being given the one-day captaincy was part of this.

Naturally. It was always his goal to eventually captain the ODI side, probably the only thing he had left to achieve.

Now that it's out of the equation, he probably figured he's done it all - a World Cup final victory, everything.

Or maybe it is because like Murali has now agreed (he plans to retire from ODIs in a year or two) ODIs cause injuries to spin bowlers, tests don't. Murali said he has only been injured by playing ODIs, and Warne went down in the VB. It could prolong him for another year or two.

I remember countless occassions when Warne looked to have faded, but he managed to pull through it.

I suppose that the World cup is a pivotal point for many players this time around.

'coz Warne is pedestrian when it comes to his record against the Indians.

    Quite a few spinners are...
Sreesanth said, "Next ball he was beaten and I said, 'is this the King Charles Lara? Who is this impostor, moving around nervously? I should have kept my mouth shut for the next ball - mind you, it was a length ball - Lara just pulled it over the church beyond the boundary! He is a true legend."
