Saqlain is going to need a big world cup to get the wickets he needs for 300. Srinath and Warne both probably should get there.

Eyes not spreadsheets
Since England play less than half the number of ODI's that the likes of India and Pakistan play, is it any surprise their players aren't up there?

sasnoz

Banned
you notice the rate they get them though and each one of them is a match winning bowler and darren gough is the only english match winning odi bowler

plus english play lots of test matches but no bowler has taken 400 test wickets yet, though nz have only had 1 over 200

anzac

International Debutant
NZ's bowling stats reflect their style of play as a result of not having too many 'strike' seam bowling options since Sir Richard!!!

Until now the only other ODI seam bowlers that have been close to being called 'strike' bowlers have been injury prone......

:)

Mind you...

Bond - avg of 20
Tuffey - avg of 29
Mills - avg of 22
Adams - avg of 25

its getting better for NZ.

anzac

International Debutant
the WC will be a good chance to see how they stand up - Tuffey & others have a question mark hanging over their Away form, as most of their success has been achieved at Home (I would include Oram in this scenario as well).

:)

Gotchya

State Vice-Captain
Srinath should get there, not sure about Warne or Saqlain. Warne is coming back from injury not sure he'll get all the games, Saqlain was quick to get to 200 butn ow he's not been that dangerous for some time.

I am looking forward to Wasim reaching 500 in the cup.

Bazza

International 12th Man
Darren Gough is England's leading wickettaker in ODIs. He has 174 but has only played 111 games.

Ian Botham took 383 test wickets, and for a long time was in the top 3 wicket takers in tests. It's only recently the likes of Walsh, Murali, Warne, McGrath and Akram (?) have passed him.

Kumble 238 2125.3 9022 303 6/12 5/33 29.77 4.24 42.0 7 2
Murali 202 1822.1 6996 300 7/30 5/9 23.32 3.83 36.4 7 6
Srinath 218 1898 8478 299 5/23 5/24 28.35 4.46 38.0 5 3

Doesn't look so good for the Indians on averages eh?

Strike Rates:

Saqlain
Waqar
Donald
McGrath
Pollock/Warne
Murali
Wasim
Srinath
Kumble

Still not looking so great for the two Indian members of this elite group....

ECON:

Pollock
Murali
Wasim
McGrath
Donald
Kumble
Warne
Saqlain
Srinath
Waqar

McGrath gets my vote by appearing in the top 4 for all three lists.

Pollock is amazingly economical for a seamer. I wonder where AA is ;)

Not too bad when you consider average, in fact better than Kumble, strike rate is also ok, economy is really poor.

Yeah but what position on the list?

He wouldn't be that bad if he didn't bowl so many "4" balls.

He doesn't come anywhere near the top ten. The "4" balls are what result in poor economy.

And how different the list looks when you compare bowlers based on their wicket to match ratio (i.e. how many wickets on average they take per match):

Saqlain 165 284 1.72
Donald 161 271 1.68
Waqar 256 409 1.60
McGrath 167 255 1.53
Warne 191 288 1.51
Murali 202 300 1.49
Pollock 180 260 1.44
Wasim 350 490 1.40
Javagal 217 297 1.37
Anil 237 302 1.27

Yeah thats true, bowlers like Waseem, Waqar, Kumble,Murali are only in the list coz they have played so many matches.Otherwise in term of quality they aren't comparable to the English bowlers !

In terms of economy and average , Harmison takes the cake! Here are his stats,

Mat O R W BB1 BB2 Ave Econ SR 4w 5w
4 36.4 201 5 2/39 2/45 40.20 5.48 44.0 0 0
