Starts either tomorrow or Monday I think. Haven't seen much press about it. Anyone know anything?

WILLIAMS LIFTS QAS TO OPENING WIN

27 August 2007

New XXXX GOLD Queensland Bulls rookie player Worrin Williams has lifted the Queensland Academy of Sport to a dogged win in the opening match of the 2007 State Institute Challenge Series in Darwin.

Williams, a right-arm pace bowler, claimed 4-22 to help restrict host team the Northern Territory to 8-134 in reply to the QAS total of 8-142 in the 40-over match.

Williams ripped through the NT top order as the home side slumped to 6-16 before a fightback put the locals back in the hunt to chase down the QAS target.

Mackay allrounder Shaun Austin, an Australian U-18 squad player and QAS Regional Squad member, did his bit with bat and ball in the win, combining with Bulls leg-spinner Daniel Doran for a vital 68-run seventh wicket partnership.

Austin top-scored with 34 while Doran hit 32, with opener Nick Kruger (33) the only other score of note for the QAS.

Austin picked up 2-21 while former Gladstone paceman Matthew Turich claimed 2-13.

The QAS play the ACT tomorrow.

The tournament, which runs until August 31, features the NSW and WA Academy teams, Northern Territory and ACT open teams and the Bangladesh Academy.

A zim team should also be there, that would be excellent experience.

I guess it was never brought to their attention.

QAS WIN AGAIN

29 August 2007

The Queensland Academy of Sport remains unbeaten at the State Institute Challenge series in Darwin with paceman Worrin Williams producing another eye-catching performance.

Williams, a XXXX GOLD Queensland Bulls rookie contracted player, inspired a middle order collapse that saw Tasmania dismissed for 170, with the QAS batsmen reaching the target for the loss of four wickets.

Williams finished with 5-20 off seven overs, taking four wickets in his second spell as Tasmanian tumbled from a solid position to be all out inside their allotted 40 overs.

Williams enjoyed fine support from Souths paceman Matthew Turich, with the former Gladstone product claiming 3-32 while Townsville spinner Andrew Martel picked up 2-28.

Bulls left-hander Nathan Reardon top-scored for the QAS with 47 in their successful run-chase, with Australian Under-19 wicket-keeper Dom O’Brien (35 not out) and Mackay allrounder Shaun Austin (28 not out) steering them to victory.

The QAS will meet the Bangladesh Academy side tomorrow. The week-long tournament finishes on Friday, with the QAS having a bye for the final round.
