Abdul razaq retires.

Retiring in 'protest'.. Not for family or physical reasons.. Just seems to be a bit of a knee-jerk reaction...

Whats the betting we will see him back for Pakistan in about 10 months time?
Err, how it is knee--jerk ? I think it is a well calculated move on his part. He retires from International Cricket and next day signs up a deal with Worcestershire and in ICL. It just means he is still a quality cricketer as opposed to what being said by Bhupinder Singh and some other Pakistani fans. Ever wondered why so many talented Pakistani cricketers end up in county cricket and want to play for England (Saqi, Mushtaq, Md. Akram, Mahmood) ? Dropping Razzaq from the 20/20 squad is one of the most ridiculous decision I have seen since Zulu's exclusion in SA squad few years ago.

As for his return, he himself has said that "There can be reconciliation but the board has to listen to the players' grievances. Why is the board acting like this with players, trying to get rid of all the seniors?" Is he wrong in that assessment ? IMO, NO.

They want to play for other countries when they become crap & are not good enough to maintain a place in the Pakistan team.Tell me a single player amongst those you mentioned who performed brilliantly when he last played for Pakistan?

Yeah Like Pakistan team has been winning world cups without them and winning every series without them.

So when you're not showing great perofrmance, you should allow every crap player or someone who's been in bad form for sometime to regularly represent your national side?

Saqlain, Mushtaq, Azhar Mahmood etc were not crap players, they were going through some poor form and ignored by PCB selectors for good for reasons best known to them (PCB).

Players like Kaneria who cant bowl to save their life are nowhere close to what Saqi and Musi achieved for Pak.

Azhar Mahmood was a crap player. He's done nothing for Pakistan except scoring those 3 hundreds against South Africa.Saqlain Mushtaq when dropped had become worst than Kaneria. He bowled doosra too much in last few years of his international career that he had become very predictable with his deliveries. In 2003,even Bangladeshi players were slogging him like they were facing Mohammad Sami,Ajit Agarkar,Dave Mohammed etc type of bowler. He performed very poorly against India, after that he became injured(PCB did whatever it could to help him attain fitness but he was interrested more in preaching religion then) & has never been able to maintain match fitness since then. Now,even his county is not allowing him to play for their first team.

I agree and I've never supported Kaneria's inclusion in the team .Pakistan does have a good spin bowling prospects in the form of Tahir Khan & Tariq Mahmood who deserve to be picked instead of crap like Kaneria.

A player decides he wants to throw his international career away because he was omitted from a particular tournament, in a format of the game that a some of the players are feeling is being taken too seriously. Admittedly his exclusion was a bit of a shock, as he seems perfectly suited to Twenty20 cricket, but for him to retire in protest at his non selection is absolutely pathetic IMO. If that is his work ethic then Pakistan are better off without him.

* Azhar Mahmood was not Crap.
* Saqlain failed in the only test he played against India in 2004, but who didn't ?

Agree with Sanz assesment, something is going on behind closed doors within the Pakistan board.

But not too sure what makes Kaneria crap though?..

Agree with Shoaib\BS, TBH, Azhar Mahmood and Mohammad Akram were nothing players. Saqlain and Mushtaq were once good but became awful at one point and haven't deserved Pakistan selection from then on.

And it's amazing how many people seem not to be terribly aware of what he said about ages of Pakistani (and Bangladeshi) cricketers.

And secondly do people think that selectors should tell every player why he is dropped?
I think if it is somebody who has been a part of the team for a while and has been dropped, the selectors should tell him why he has been dropped.
Shouldn't it be fairly obvious? I really don't buy into people having a strop because they are not told why they are omitted..
Am with viktor here too TBH. Sure, you might be doing a Jimmy sometimes, but anyone who's been around for any decent length of time deserves some sort of quick chat (and, hopefully, for a good man-manager, some consolation small-talk). Certainly to just be called and have a "you're dropped" or, worse still, no notification at all, is IMO pretty disgraceful.

I can understand Razzaq's distaste, but nonetheless, retiring is an overreaction. And we've seen many temporary "retirements", especially in Pakistan, and I'd probably be more surprised if Razzaq doesn't at some point play for Pakistan again than if he does.

Razzaq's retirement is not terrible or admirable, tbh. Nobody here has the slightest idea what's going on between Razzaq, the PCB, the ICL and whoever else is involved.

When you're sacked/suspended from a job, the least you expect is an explanation. Razzaq is justified in quitting Team PCB.

No, he isn't. It is justifiable that he was and probably still is angry about his omission, but to retire is a complete over-reaction and very unprofessional.

But would it have hurt the PCB to make a phone call and talk it out with a player who has served Pakistan cricket so well?

No, it wouldn't have and that part was quite unprofessional by the PCB. A player should be able to cop it on the chin and actually take it like a man though, which Razzaq clearly has not done. Basically he's thrown his toys out of the cot because he got dropped, which is ridiculous.
