15 000 ODI Runs - Sachin Tendulkar

Whatever it takes!!!
Well, every batsman would take the bigger score if they are given an option, but also most batsmen (if not all) feel more satisfied when their effort is a match winning one..... A batsman would definitely like to have 90 n.o to his name than a 20 n.o if it is guaranteed that his team is winning in either case, but also there are times when a batsman would want a 10 ball 35 n.o (a match winning knock) than a 150 ball 100..... It depends on situations more than anything else.

As a rule, you can expect a batsman, when given an option, to take the option which will enable his team to win first, but if that result is guaranteed, a batsman would, more often than not, like to choose the bigger score, if it were upto him.

It is all relative to match contexts. On a flat wicket, where every one is scoring a 100, who cares if you scored a 100 as well. On the other hand, in a low scoring match, even a 50 can be invaluable.

He probably took a lot of heart from the fact that he basically got himself out today. A century and anything more was there for his taking but he tried to get a little too cheeky off Tshabalala. He must know that any other day of the week, a big century would have been on the cards.
I didn't actually see the game, so I can't comment properly on whether Tendulkar through away his wicket or not.

International Vice-Captain
Amazing achievement, i hope he goes out in a blaze of run scoring in both forms(though everyone else in the Indian team will have to fail so England can still win the series) and will get to be remembered for what he could be than what he was during some of the latter parts of his career.
