Maybe this all-time team would be better served with two all-rounders, sobers at 6, and maybe Botham/Imran at 8, with GIlly in between them??

Then you'd have:
Hobbs, Gavaskar, Bradman, Hammond, Richards, Sobers, Gilchrist/another great 'keeper, Botham/Imran, Marshall, McGrath, ____________

Thus leaving ONE place for the final bowler, or two, if you make McGrath an option rather than a certainty.
with such a strong top 7 why do you need another all rounder? we should aim to choose 4 best bowlers possible. i dont think this team will be short of runs at all.

if we have a bowling attack capable of taking 20 wickets then we dont even have to use the part time bowling of sobers.

That would've been my team balance, but not exactly with those choices.

Nah. You'd want to have Sobers at 5, leaving you with:

Hobbs
Gavaskar
Bradman
Hammond
Sobers
Gilchrist
Imran
Marshall
Warne
McGrath
Barnes

6/7 people who can bowl and can bat up to 7 or even 9 on a good day.

you have effectively dropped richards in favor of imran. i would rather drop mcgrath and get marshall and imran to open the attack. cant imgaine an all-time xi without sir viv.
