Listening to the radio today I heard Hamish Carter promoting the NZ acadamy of sport. He mentioned working with Nathan Astle for cricket. Fair enough but what does he do with these sportsmen and women? If he trains them in batting technique then we have a problem coming our way. Astle was a fine player but he didn't have much technique, just briliant hand-eye coordination. Does anyone know who does what in the NZ acadamy for cricket?
Also who does what in other acadamies around the world? I hear the WI one is in strife.
I'm going to list who i think should be training young NZ cricketers below. Feel free to comment or post one for your country of choice.
Batting Technique: Martin Crowe
Crowe knows his cricket and technique. He is also very professional and can install this in our young guns.
Seam Bowling Coach: Richard Hadlee
The king of our bowling would be a great tutor for our young seamers.
Slow Seam Bowler Coach: Chris Harris or Gavin Larsen
Would be good men to have to develop specialist slows or batsmen that bowl a bit.
Spin Bowler Coach: John Bracewell
This was a hard choice. Bracewell does know his stuff though (spin bowling at least)
Fielding Coach: Chris Harris
He can teach youngsters brilliant fielding and how to enjoy it.
Opening Batsman Coach: Glenn Turner
Excellent mentor to young openers and very professional. Could have saved Jesse Ryder methinks if he had the chance.
Wicket Keeping Coach: Steve Rixon
Two of our best ever keepers have been tutored by this man. Get him in the academy.
Leadership Coach: Stephen Fleming
When he retires he can pass on his wealth of knowledge to our up and comers.
Also if it doesn't happen already it would be good if FC players did an academy stint every so often. You've never finished learning.
As I said before this isn't just NZ, if you want to post about another country and changes and developments to it's academy that can be made then go for it.
