Katich to remain in Australia

Good to hear. His chances of playing another Test have probably gone, but you never know these things.

One of the most poorly-treated players of recent times.

Would love to see him play for Australia again. Yeah, I'm in the minority, but I love watching him bat.

Might as well use him next test. I don't really rate the likes of Jacques.

I do! :)

Anyway - Jacques is pretty well an opener, Katich a middle-order man. Hodge is ahead of him there.

I mean, I'd happily put Hussey opening and have specialist middle-order bats in the middle-order, but most seem to favour leaving the opener (Hussey) there.

He's a middle order player? I always thought he was an opener.....Damn.

Don't think we ever found-out for certain who was responsible, really - could have been any of the selection committee.

Only chance of that happening is surely Watson having a gun start to the season.

Think Watson's a shoo-in almost regardless, ie unless he scores barely a run at the start of the season. Failing that, Symonds would probably get picked.

At least, that's what seems to be the general consensus amongst the educated Aussies on this board.

I would have completely forgotten katich had i not seen this thread. how is his form in domestic cricket in australia.....i rated him very highly when he was almost a regular member of the aussie team.
Though very slim chances of making it back to the team ....but you never know with so many players in their mid thirties

I did and still do, and his form is good as it always has been.

Sadly, though, Brad Hodgie is now ahead of him in the pecking-order.

As a Test player, Katich is one guy who could say has been genuinely unlucky. His dropping in 2004, for Andrew Symonds in Sri Lanka, was possibly the harshest call on a batsman this decade in Aussie cricket. Then he was dumped, effectively for Boof Lehmann, after he did a great job filling in for Ponting in India in 2004/2005. After that, he seemed to bat with less freedom in both forms of the game.

It's an interesting one... just how hard did that absurdly unfair treatment hit him? He certainly wasn't the only one to struggle with the swing in the last 4 Tests in England, and he's played one authentic Test innings since. Well, it was more than Martyn got, I suppose, but still...

At 32, though, it's unlikely he'll get any more chances, you'd have to think?

There aren't really so many players mid-30s though. Only Hayden among the batsmen, so really that's only one spot up for grabs. (I'm ignoring the Langer spot, which surely Jaques/Rogers/Hodge/Waston are all above him for)

Quite like Katich TBH, he has been treated harshly and I'd love for him to get another chance in the Test side.
