Either first or last, though I originally thought this topic up as players sharing a last name as that would be more challenging (at least I presume). So the most obvious team first up:

All Time 'Smith' Test XI

Greame Smith
(SA) - Captain
Devon Smith (WI)
Robin Smith (Eng)
Steve Smith (Aus)
Mike Smith (Eng)
Collie Smith (WI)
Dwayne Smith (WI)
Ian Smith (NZ) - Keeper
Peter Smith
(Eng)
Jim Smith (Eng)
Mike Smith
(Eng)

Well if I had to back that side I'd hope it'd be on a spinning wicket! Dwayne Smith as first change seamer doesn't exactly strike me as threatening. Decentish batting line-up though. Fairly deep and two class batsmen in Greame and Robin.

Can anyone construct a better team? I think that maybe a team of Singh's could be decent but other than that no idea.
I would replace three players in that team.

I would replace three players in that team.

- Steve Smith with Frank B Smith of New Zealand (1947-1952)
- Peter Smith with Christopher L Smith of England 1980's
and Mike Smith at number 11 with Charles Smith England 1890's

  1. Smith, Graeme C
  2. Smith, Frank B
  3. Smith, Robin A
  4. Smith, Michael J K (Captain)
  5. Smith, O'Neil G (RAOS)
  6. Smith, Devon S
  7. Smith, Christopher L (RAOS)
  8. Smith, Ian D S (keeper)
  9. Smith, Dwayne R (RAFM)
  10. Smith, Cedric I J (RAF)
  11. Smith, Charles A (RAFM)

You could add Kabir Ali, who might improve it. But then again ....
There's also Mohamed Ali, who played for Derbyshire IIRC.
And Bill Alley played FC cricket - possibly for Somerset?

Yeah, Bill orginally came from mixed race background, but his parents changed the spelling of their name to make it easier to move to Australia given that country's immigration policy at the time.

EDIT
Not really - my original post was a lame attempt at humour.
Sorry mate!
