What are India doing playing South Africa and Pakistan on an English tour? Or am I missing something?

it is probably 4 the money...but the reason given is to grow the game in parts of the world where cricket has not developed fully yet....

(BUT...i read somewhere that the pakistan game might have taken place at lords...but this proposal was rejected by the ECB or something..)

7 ODIs?. Woe is me.
I hope for the sake of the players that several of the ODIs are rained off.

As for squads, I will cut out of the lists who I don't think should play in either form of the game.

This is too big to be a squad, but just my rough idea.

Green for both
Red for Test only
Blue for ODI only

Batsmen
Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Wasim Jaffer, Dinesh Kartik, Subramaniam Badrinath, Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma

Bowlers
Zaheer Khan, RP Singh, S Sreesanth, Ranadeb Bose, Ramesh Powar, Anil Kumble, Pragyan Ojha, Munaf Patel, VRV Singh, Piyush Chawla*,

*Not in performance camp because training in Indian academy in Australia

That is a bit sceptical of India's chances.

I think India's new found defensive opening partnership will prove vital in seaming English conditions.

I don't know if India have put a lot of thought into this Jaffer-Karthik thing.....so where does that leave Sehwag ?
On the bench ---- does he still have a future as a test opener - or will he be shunted to the middle ? Is Karthik going to play as a a specialist opener from now on ? What about his keeping vis a vis Dhoni...given that Dhoni is far from proven at test level ?

Well, I think Sehwag is an ODI only player now until he manages to prove himself very highly in the ODIs to get a test recall.

Whatever it takes!!!
to Kaiser:

dont think India have solid answers for any of those questions.

Karthik is a bit of an elixir for this team, because he can basically bat anywhere to a decent extent, field pretty well at most positions and is a brilliant keeper and hence, a more than capable back up for Dhoni. So, they will have him around and my guess is, they will just get him to do whatever is left according to the rest of the team that has been picked. Might get to a Dhoni Vs SEhwag situation at England at some point for this team, IMHO.

But that makes no sense......Sehwag hasn't been a good ODI player for some time now....he has always tasted far more success at test level and I find it hard to believe that you'd pick him for tests based on his ODI form.

And with 4000 runs at an average of nearly 50 behind him, is he really a player you want to leave out on an important test tour like this ?

I am not doing anything, I have simply stated what the Selection Committe have and likely will do.
