Dimitri Mascarenhas

I just learnt that Mascarenhas is actually eligable to play for Sri Lanka, as his parents are Sri Lankan. Having a look at his stats and his performances and role he plays for Hants, he looks half decent. Should Sri Lanka try and get him to play for us. His 29yo, but still probably got a few years left in him. He can't be much worse then the guys we have tired in the past and would fill the bowling all rounder position pretty well. Im kind of surprised the selectors have never tired to get him to play us for considering he keeps getting over looked for England. Maybe they have and he said no. Man i know if i had a choice between Kulasekara and Mascarenhas, who i would go for.

Thoughts, you reckon we should try and get him to play for us? If so what role would he play specialist bowler, bowling all rounder or geniune all rounder (batting at 7)

I always thought his parents were Indian, but if indeed they are SriLankan, I would pick him for SL in place of Maharoof at 7 in ODIs .He looks good value to me at 7 as a batting allrounder. I think his batting is slightly better than his bowling. But definitely can fill 10 overs with his bowling in ODIs .

Can't believe people didn't realise he was Sri Lankan given that he's about the most Sri Lankan looking guy ever born judging by that pic

Nothing to do with his appearance, but rather his name...which is an Anglo Indian type name rather than a Sri Lankan name to be honest..

I have never heard of any Sri Lankan with that name..

Sounds Portuguese to me (the first google hit is a school in Brazil)

Happy birthday mate, just noticed it on the forum front page.

I think England should give him a whirl, he's certainly no worse than Plunkett or Saj at the no.8 (who needs to bat) position. Never understood why he's been overlooked to be honest, especially in ODI. He's got 223 wickets @ 24 in List-A and averages 23 with the bat. That's pretty decent compared to some of the dross in our side.

Chances ot him playing for SL are probably dependent on money, as it would cost him his Hants gig if he went down that route.

Anyway his real first name is "Adrian", how much more English do you want!??! :p

Most of my ICC experience with him involves legendary performances against my teams, so I can't say I like the guy.

Yeah from what i hear these are his prefered sides to play in order are; Australia, WA, Hampshire, England and then Sri Lanka. Main reason why Hampshire is infront of England if he plays for England there goes his childhood dream to play for WA or Australia one day.

He probably could have walked into the Sri Lankan side if he played one season of cricket in the Premier League. I know Tamil Union had a English seamer play for them last season, so its not unheard of for an overseas player to come and play in our comp. Mind you if he played then he wouldn't be able to play for his Perth Grade side.

He must not have many years left in county cricket, so he might as try and play some internationals before he retires. Sri Lanka would be by far the easiest side for him to get into, consdering our pace depth or lack of. I wonder if the selectors have ever considering asking him to play, he would be an assest to our side. Surely Moody knows his Sri Lankan, or Murali, Vaas, Chandana, Jayasuriya or someone who played in England against him.
