The Guardian (UK) rates the world's best 11 to take on Australia

Tim

Cricketer Of The Year
Tests:

Michael Vaughan (England)
Gary Kirsten (South Africa)
Brian Lara (West Indies)
Sachin Tendulkar (India)
VVS Laxman (India)
Jacques Kallis (South Africa)
Andy Flower (Zimbabwe)
Shaun Pollock (South Africa)
Daniel Vettori (New Zealand)
Shoaib Ahktar (Pakistan)
Shane Bond (New Zealand)

This list was created by Mike Selvey & there are a few raised eye-brows with this lineup.

Although looking at it..I think they'd get the job done.

Hmmmm I would go with most of you lot's but play 2 spinners in Vettori and Harbajan, as they have both done well against the Aussies.

You have to play Lara. He has a least 4 big hundreds against them, including two doubles!!

An Australian paper did this last week, their side was a little different though, they had Jayawardene opening with Vaughan for some stupid reason, they also included Zaheer Khan, and from memory Wasim Akram was in there too.

If any bowler has given trouble to the Aussie team then its Akhter in recent past and Harbhajan some time back, can't see how people can exclude them.

Mine would be,

Gibbs
Vaughan
Lara
Tendulkar
Kallis
Dravid
Flower
Harbhajan
Polock
Akhter
Muralitharan

It's my own personal opinion and I know it's going to start a good deal of controversy, but I don't totally agree with Akhtar's bowling action.

I wouldn't pick two off spinner's in my team though and Muralitharan is clearly the better of the two.

Are we basing this on ability or performance against the Aussies - I cannot believe anyone would not select Murali if they're playing 1 spinner, let alone 2!

Since we're not playing in India with Indian umpires, Harb's chances are reduced...
