I think Anderson (and Mahmood even though neither are contracted iirc) is only going to be allowed one FC game by the ECB before the first test, so it will be hard for him to press his case by domestic performances.

Sadly I can see it being a case of Anderson being dragged around as 12th man again this summer.

this is the side i believe will be picked

Strauss
Cook
Vaughan
Collingwood
Pietersen
Bell
Flintoff
Nixon
Hoggard
Harmison
Panesar

12th Man: Anderson
I hope you're right about Bell and Collingwood's batting positions and I REALLY hope you're wrong about Nixon being picked!

Oh, quite, but Ban beating SA was far, far, far more of an upset than WI winning a game over here would be.

I went with Flintoff, Harmison and Hoggard. Panesar to be the spinner.

Haha, who on EARTH didn't vote for Flintoff?

And I really do have to wonder who these "other" are. I mean, I'd love to see Gough, Caddick and Cork, obviously, but sadly none exactly have a compelling case for selection at the current time...

I think most of the "others" would be Broad, judging by the replies. There's also people like NUFAN who voted for "others" as they wanted only three specialist bowlers (plus Flintoff) selected, and hence counted Collingwood/Bell as part of the pace attack.

Well... how long does it normally take you to draw 9 circles...

Took me about 20 seconds.

Yeah exactly right. I picked Flintoff, Harmison and Hoggard and Panesar will be part of the attack. I picked others solely as Collingwood, cause he'll be required to bowl, definately.

I'd go with a four man attack of Flintoff, Hoggard, Paneser, and Simon Jones. That's assuming Jones is fit. If not, Anderson I guess, and I'd seriously think about giving someone like Broad a go if Jimmy doesn't produce the goods quickly.

I'd not play Harmison again - I think he's had plenty of chances, and its time to move on and try and identify players to take England forward for the next several years to come. Obviously Mahmood should not be allowed near the team either.

I don't think Anderson with his habit of falling away in his delivery stride will be capble of sustained accuracy at test level.

I'd give Harmison another chance against the West Indies and let Simon Jones play some more county cricket.

My first test attack would be: Flintoff, Harmison, Mudhsudhan Singh, Hoggard

Likely First Test Team:
Cook
Strauss
Bell
Vaughan
Pietersen
Collingwood
X (whoever makes the grade from the lottery of keepers)
Flintoff
Hoggard
Panesar
Harmison

Presumably Flintoff at 7, not 8 right? ;)

If Jones is fit (and maybe he needs more time to prove he is, so county cricket might be the way), but if he's fit, he should get a game ahead of Harmison or any of the others...

Otherwise I like your team. If Trescothick can satisfy everyone, most particularly himself, that he's ready, I'd have him back in the team, and I'd be tempted to keep KP at 4 and have Vaughan at five, but otherwise, yeah, that looks good.
