Rohit Sharma is the most hyped cricketer ever...
Amongst currently active international keepers it has to be Dhoni.
It might be Dhoni, but I think he has improved quite a bit in this regard.

I have to say Paul Nixon could be up there as well.
I was thinking about Sangakara but he's gotten much better lately. If I recall he took a great catch a week or so ago. IIRC he had a few costly cock-ups in New Zealand which hurt Sri Lanka and you just can't have those if you're a wicket-keeper. But recently he's been good. I've never been greatly impressed by Dhoni so he deserves a mention as well.
Incredible how Gilchrist has changed the w/k landscape. I really wish teams would go back to the days where they'd just pick specialist w/k and not try and find all-rounders because it's so costly. Geriant Jones was hideous at the start of the 2005 Ashes, missing 6 chances in the first test and a few crucial ones in the second. Actually coming to think of it, I've seen the odd game here and there where poor wicket keeping has cost matches.
Gilchrist is just a freak. Even when he doesn't make runs he's terrific behind the stumps. Technically I don't think he's as good as Healey or Marsh. But more often than not he's been great - the only time his keeping sucked was in the 2005 Ashes, which all in all was a forgettable tour for him. But other than that he takes great catches, can keep well to guys like Hogg, who's an underrated tricky bowler, and just genrally gives a solid job.
Teams need to realise they shouldn't look for all-rounders because for all the runs Geriant Jones made in the 2005 Ashes, he was worth over 100+ runs for Australia in the first Test alone. I will say he got a little better later on in the series, but Read should have been in there from the start IMO.
Akmal and Dhoni are easily the worst keepers around in world cricket, but having said that Dhoni has improved his keeping a lot in recent times but there still is a lot of scope for improvement in his keeping.
I think Dhoni is a much better keeper than Akmal. I dont really see Dhoni drop too many catches unlike Mr. Akmal.
RIP BOB WOOLMER
akmal is one of the best but on current form he is one of the poorest
i would say dhoni or the zimbabwe one
akmals keeping was back to tis best in the world cup and he didnt miss any chances

Akmal without a doubt. There was some debate to this thread when Geraint was around though.. I will give you that.
Nixon is actually a lot better up to the stumps than standing back which is bizarre.
If you guys think Akmal was bad, I can only assume you never saw Dasgupta.
Not only worse than Akmal, but worse than the 2004 Geraint Jones - which takes some doing.
Nope never did.
Haha, I wish there was some YouTube footage.
Dropped some of the simplest catches I've ever seen a wicketkeeper drop.
To be fair I think Nixon has looked quite accomplished since coming into the England ODI side. I'd be quite happy to give him a central contract as England's WK if he was 25. He's no Gilchrist but he is as far as wicketkeeper batsman go not at all bad. I'd say he's easily better than Jones with the gloves and much better than either Jones or Read with the bat.
Anyway that was slightly off topic.
Dhoni is the worst.
