This is a poll to decide the two opening bowlers for the pre World War 1 Test XI. You'll need to pick TWO bowlers from the following list:

SF Barnes, and Charlie Turner to partner him IMO. Hard to go past Lohmann and Spoffoth, but at least one of them will probaby get in as the first change bowler. Ferris with less than 10 matches is too small a sample for mine.

Lohmann and Spoffoth, although SF Barnes will get in as one of the bowlers anyway so it doesn't make much of a different.

Syd Barnes was an easy choice to make. After that it could be anyone of Spofforth, Turner, Richardson or Lohmann. I went with Spofforth just ahead of Lohmann.

I will choose Barnes as first change, Richardson was a great fast bowler, and one of six (best players of all time) that Cardus chose for Wsiden's 100th birthday

I want two real quicks as opening bowlers so Spofforth and Richardson for me, with the medium pace wizardry of Barnes as first change.

I never get the point of posts & threads about cricketers before 1950s etc. The only way to evaluate their merit is through statistics. No one here has actually seen any of them play. What's the point then?

Went Barnes, due to stats and reputation, and Turner, cause I played with his great (or maybe great great, can't remember) grandson in Shanghai
