Heart Breakers

Couple of years ago my team had the opposition 8 wickets down and 50 runs short of the target and they got it off the last ball. Amazing game, but didn't talk for a couple of hours after it tbh.

Lost a game a few years ago where we needed about 15 runs to win with four wickets in hand. Got down to five to win with one wicket in hand. Left armer bowling over the wicket to the right hander bowls a double bouncer (both bounces pitching outside leg), the batsmen then inside edged the ball onto his pads and was given out LBW.

Had a much bigger heartbreaker in rugby. Last game of the season, we hadn't won one. We're leading 8-7 in the dieing minutes, opposition in attack. They throw a wild pass, our No.8 goes for an intercept but drops it. Referee calls it an "intentional knock on" and they get a penalty right in front to win it 10-8 on fulltime.
What the hell?

Had the umpire never seen or heard or knew about cricket before? Because that has to be the most incredible thing ever I have read.

Have had a few over the years.

But the one that sticks in my craw the most was the 1992-93 final on the other teams home deck. Pitch is wet, we get sent in - 7/27 at one stage - recovered to make 170-odd and had them 1/2 over night. We had the best pace attack in the compas well.

Turn up next day (sunday) - pitch dried, cut and rolled, outfield cut and rolled.

They passed us 6 down. The groundsman's excuse? Thought there was a rep game being played there that day. Odd, as he was an employee of th eclub we were playing.

Last round before finals on the weekend. We played the top side, and we had to win to make finals, otherwise we'd miss out on percentage. The top side wanted one of the other teams to make the finals, so they were happy to bat for the draw and took 135 overs to make 346, leaving us with only 61 overs to chase it down. So we did. :)

Results in the last round meant that the team that was 2nd heading into the round ended up missing out on the finals by .003 percentage points.

Last season we nearly beat the at-that-stage undefeated side, except they put on 45 odd for the last wicket to beat us. And two years ago in a semi final, the opposition who were higher ranked batted for a draw over the last session, one guy ended up making 50 from 250 balls, and we had them 8 wickets down for 33 overs but couldn't end up breaking that partnership.
