Can you name an ODI team to beat the All-Time Australian XI?

Craig

World Traveller
As the title says, can you name a side that would be the recently named Australian all-time ODI XI (the title I got it wrong on my behalf and I apologise if it is slightly misleading) although I should stress it is for fun, but if you want to debate about it, I can't stop you.

Anyway:

Sanath Jayasuriya
Sachin Tendulkar
Brian Lara
*Viv Richards
Inzamam ul-Haq
Lance Klusener
+Mark Boucher
Shaun Pollock
Wasim Akram
Waqar Younis
Muttiah Muralitharan

12th: Jacques Kallis

I tried to select this team on balance and I have probably made some glarring omissions, so tell me anyway. Guys like Dravid, and Kallis (well to start), Imran Khan, Allan Donald, Saqlain Mushtaq, Sourav Ganguly and some more are all a bit stiff to miss out.

I wanted a regular left-hand, right-hand batting combination, I felt Inzy would be best served at 5, then Dravid or Kallis, Lara or Richards could swap places, so it is very flexible, and I wanted a hitter at 6 or 7 and I felt Klusener and Boucher were the mean for the job.

Wasim and Waqar with the new ball, and Pollock is the best man for 8 and would be perfect at first change, and I needed a spinner and Murali fits the bill, and Klusener and/or Richard can fit in the other ten.

So what do you think?

EDIT: can somebody please add 'alltime' to Australian all time XI

Overall, your team is very good.

However, I'd prefer Flintoff to Klusener (simply because he's a much better bowler) and even though he's not one of my favorites; Kallis over Inzy (offers a lot more on the field and can act as a foil around Fred, Viv and Boucher.)

I would have swapped Sanga for Boucher had there been a spot in the top 4 but since Boucher is at 7, I feel Boucher is a lot more suited to that position. McCullum wud probably usurp him in the future tho.

Yea anywayz I'd back this team to beat an alltime AUS ODI XI 7/10.

What about

Sourav Ganguly
Sanath Jayasuriya
Kumar Sangakkara
Jacques Kallis
Brian Lara
Lance Klusener
Andrew Flintoff
Shaun Pollock
Wasim Akram
Saqlain Mushtaq
Allan Donald

Hmm....
Anwar
Ganguly
Lara
Tendulkar
Inzamam-ul-Haq
Dhoni
Flintoff
Pollock
Wasim Akram
Donald
Muralitharan
Would be something like my choice, personally...

But you could probably name 2 or 3 other sides just as strong.

very good and balanced side but i would pick kumara sangakara for dhoni and pick lance klusnar for freddy. saqlain as 12 man incase any of these players miss out.

Flintoff is a better bowler than Klusener has ever been, really, and that's what's needed more in that side I picked.

Sangakkara, meanwhile, is a top-order batsman and good as he is, IMO there are better ones than him. There aren't many better lower-order strokeplayers than Dhoni, who I'd consider pretty seriously as a batsman alone.

I feel that career averages vs Australia should be brought into this for some of the names mentioned.

Pretty tight team for mine. Only weak link is Sanath IMO. Not consistent enough. Perhaps use either Saurav or Anwar?

at his best he is one of the best in the world- came off a fantastic ashes series. him and hussey have been done a rough deal by being kept out for so long
