What is it about South African batsmen who can keep wicket called Van Wyk, who specialise in the one-day game?
There are even two other Jacobs' who are batsmen-wicketkeepers!
Very common name.. Like having lots of Smiths..

I heard about some called Laurie Wilson (I think) who plays for Surrey u/16s. Apparently he hooked Hoggard for a six during a 2nd Eleven match against Yorkshire when he was returning from injury. Also, after seeing Sticky Wicket, Mike Gatting mentioned a spinner at Middlesex who is around 14 who's played a couple of 2nd eleven matches.

Top Prospect

Steven Mullaney, beats John Crawley's junior record of 207 for Lancs U17's last season, also plays for my club. Now in India with England U19's.

Gareth Cross,21, signed for Lancs for a year to replace 2nd XI keeper Jamie Haynes, quickest hands I have ever seen, and brilliant batsmen, averaged 40 in 1 of the best leagues in England.

Wow, he hit a six!!!!!!!!
Gotta do a bit more than that before we start thinking of him as a prospect, really! :)

Yeah - but the same name, same cricketing assets... pretty darn unusual - hardly ever happens here, and we've got about twice the players.

Here at somerset we have 3 players that will be future England Players and be great players
Rob Woodman: Allrounder
James Hildreth: Batsmen
Mathew Wood: Opening bat
Great players that will play for England For sure
Woodman looked good when he played against me but of course that doesn't really mean that much and I've not heard what he's done since.
Hildreth I'd urge a bit more caution - good prospect, yes, but people are talking about him like people so often talk about young players in this country. Too much hype.
Wood - been around for a little while now, never really done that much. Should have more opportunities once he takes Peter Bowler's place next year, but until he shows some serious improvement there's no way he's going to come close to playing for England. Bit of a Bilal Shafayat so far.

woodman is currently going to Loughbrough for ngland training for the u19s, Hildreth ok yes i agree hype on this player is high....but 210 vs Bangladesh this year a true achievemnet...and wood has been treated badly by the Somerset committee...and will play great now bowlers left.....as a opener this season will make or break the guy....all as prospects are amazing players

My record against Rob Woodman :)

One innings, 36 not out from 18 balls.. 2 fours and 2 sixes
1 wicket for 0 runs off 1 ball

:)

Seriously, all the best for Rob at Loughborough, a fine cricketer.. But I'm happy not to have succumbed :)

good record....but u cant count either under 10 performance or beach cricket games....im only joking of course...particullary to a local cricketer like urself...the guy will be a regulay for somerset next season i believe....and from there who knows.....ive batted once against the guy...i never saw the ball as it removed both my off and middle stumps....however i was batting at 11 :p .....im wondering what the other counties are bringing through at the moment...i know what somerset are bringing through but what english players are other english counties bringing through...that might play for england in the future?

Hahah, it was actually the annual "South Road derby", King's College v Richard Huish college..

I get myself worked up into a frenzy for these matches.. The following year I came in at number 9 and hit 80* to take us from 64-7 to 211 all out.. It was possibly the most moody thing I have ever done because I seem to get so worked up about giving Huish boys the biggest mauling I can manage.. Then I go back to being a jobbing leg spinner who can bat a bit..

Hmm... u19 games don't mean much until they're backed by achievements for your county... especially u19 games against Bangladesh.
