No, we are talking about Dinesh Karthik the wicket keeper-batsman. You are thinking of Murali Karthik.

Karthik can't match him; he can't bat at all, if current form is anything to go by. You can't expect a 'sensible innings' from him all the time, and the striking power is missing.
Seriously, do you watch the same game as everyone else?

Paul Nixon will keep in the next Test for England. But TBH i think people forgot that Foster isn't much better of a batsmen then Read and Davies isn't ready. Read is by far the best keeper out of Nixon, Foster, Jones and Davies. Also his not really much worse a batsmen then any of these guys. Really your not going to add many more runs by having Foster keep or one of the other guys. Unless they pick Pothas then Read probably should get the job, due to the fact that the rest are pretty crap batsmen as well.

India well Karthik is a better Test Batsmen and Keeper, but Dhoni will play cus he is match winner with the bat if he gets it right. I got no idea why you would play Karthik as specialist batsmen, surely there are about 20 odd better specialist batsmen infront of him.

You mean Karthick has more "hitting power" than Dhoni??
First of all, that's not very relevant. Good batsmen are infinitely more valuable than "hard-hitting" batsmen. Second, I was responding to the claim that Karthik "can't bat at all".

He's as good as any batsman in the Test side after Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly and Sehwag.
So he's not as good as what could easily be 5 of the 6 specialist batsmen in the Indian Test lineup, and as good as whoever would be the 6th, but not good enough to bat at 6? Fascinating. There are only so many batting spots in a balanced lineup, you know.

Read never got the umpteen chances that Geraint got
That's because Read didn't score a century in his 3rd Test.

Geraint had 9 games of crapness before being dropped, Read had 6.

And Read and Jones have both been utterly rubbish since their respective recalls. It's pretty clear to me that neither are good enough in Tests and IMO we'd do better to draw a line under both unless Jones starts scoring some serious runs for Kent again as he did in 2003 and hasn't done since.

Why are his first class (and list A for that matter) stats so ordinary?
Its cause hes ordinary. Sorry couldn't resist. :p

From the last time I saw him in a Test series against Pakistan, he indeed looked very ordinary with the bat. I always felt it was much more likely for Akmal to produce an important contribution with the bat than him, and there wasn't much to pick between their keeping. Yes, he is a better keeper than Dhoni, but I feel it is much more likely that Dhoni's Test keeping and batting will improve significantly as compared to Karthik's.

Karthik today >>>>> Karthik in his first stint.

By the way, Karthik > Akmal and India > Pakistan. :p

Whatever it takes!!!
In the one Test match he did play he performed very creditibly, especially opening the batting in the first innings which we all know is an issue for Indian cricket. Dhoni didn't do so well in the 1st Test but he batted very well at Kingsmead, formed the important partnership with Sreesanth in the 1st innings and in the 2nd he batted well with the tail chasing an impossible target by the time he got to the crease. After 15 Test matches he averages 30.70 aswell as taking 40 catches and 9 stumpings, it's a good start to his career and I would certainly have him in my side over Dinesh Karthik at the moment.
I am assuming you haven't seen either of them keep?
