Richie played for Yorkshire in 93 and 94. Gough made his England debut in 94.

In '93 Richie basically told Gough to stop bowling that medium pace rubbish, lengthen his runup and let the ball fly. Almost that he was cheating himself by not bowling as quick as he could.

Yes, I've read that too. Apparently Shaun Udal of all people was belting Gough all over the park, which led to Richardson's comments. Makes you wonder what on earth the good folks at YCCC had been doing with Gough, but that's another matter.

But not if you want a credible and competetive domestic league.

Have to remember the Counties were playing cricket before England were.

But what's more important in this day and age?

It's not a case of "what's more important", it's a case of "without a successful England team, domestic clubs go bankrupt en masse".

The ECB pays the bills, simple as. And if The ECB don't have enough income, counties go bankrupt and are lost forever.

Which, given that most have been playing for the best part of 200 years, would be an absolute tragedy.
