Worlds Current Worst XI
The World's Worst XI is picked from the most out of form players currently on the world cricket scene. 1. Kamran Akmal 2. Shane Watson 3. Hamish Marshall 4. James Marshall 5. Chamara Kapugedara 6. Virender Sehwag 7. Wavell Hinds 8. Boeta Dippenaar 9. Inzamam Ul Haq 10. Sachin Tendulkar 11. Hashim Amla
(1). After scoring three consecutive centuries and a total of 7 last year in odi's Kamran Akmal's form has hit a disastrous slump. His perfect square drives have become tentative guides to the slips which have seen him depart on numerous occasions. His form has lately been poor in both forms of the game and behind the wicket he has had concrete gloves.
(2) . Shane Watson has long promised to be a good player, one which you need to be to make the Australian side. After solid performances in the champions trophy Watson succumbed to injury. Since he has made his comback with dissapointment for the Queensland Bulls. He then got a chance in the Australian squad with Symonds injury and he looks a liability in Australia's quest to defend the world cup.
(3). Hamish Marshall is similiar to Shane Watson in that he has long promised but never performed. He shows glimpses of his ability as seen by his first ball six against Sri Lanka in the 2006 ODI series. He has been unable to back up this form.
(4). James Marshall has done the same as his brother in he hasn't performed at international level. Although his talent is not as fine as Hamish's, he himself is the first to admit dissapointment in his own achievements. The Marshall brothers promise so much but fail to deliver. Im sure they will play a big part in the future of New Zealand Cricket if they can get their mindset right.
(5). Chamara Kapugedera showed what he could do in Sri Lanka's tour of Australia in 2005/06. His sixes off Brett Lee and Glen Mcgrath at the age of 18 showed the world how talented he was. In an attempt to lure a test position for Sri Lanka, he has gone into a defensive mode with the bat which has cost him poor form in both ODI's and Tests. He is a massive hitter and should use this rare talent he has.
(6) Sehwag, well what a player. But what a slump. The good news is he has been picked in India's world cup squad and could resurrect his poor performances. The bad news is he has lost self belief. The world wants to see the old Virender back and if India find him, they are going to be hard to stop come March in the Carribean.
(7) Wavell Hinds has never looked anything more than a club player to me. He has waves of ability but his temperament is terrible. I saw him make a century against New Zealand where he struck the ball so crisply. In his next innings two days later he played and missed about thirty times and fell for single figures. With his age it is all down hill for Wavell now.
(8). Boeta Dippenaar has recently been dropped from the South African Test team. His technique is sloppy with no real power or timing in his shots. The ODI game never suited him and loosing his spot in the test team could spell the end of his international career.
(9) Inzamam Ul Haq is a great player, but his footwork is not up to par. Im not sure whether this is because his weight that is affecting his balance or what. It could be the ageing factor. It is sad to see a great player lose form. Hopefully he can regain some fitness and his form in the world cup.
(10). Sachin Tendulkar makes this team because of his test match form. His ODI form is the Tendulkar of old, and he needs to continue this in the test arena to get his flare and aura back. Brian Lara continues to do this, the question is can Sachin do it too.
(11) Hashim Amla is technically a brilliant player. His driving of good length balls through the offside has led to repetitve low scores. He has been putting a decent score along when needed to retain his place in the South African test team. This is not doing his side or himself any justice.
