Is the road to the World cup Important?

Does it really matter how a team performs on its way to the world cup...considering that no team will play for atleast 3 weeks before the world cup and none of the current series are in the carribean, So does it matter if you lose or win a series in different conditions?

SA won 3 consecetive series before falling off from the WC in first round last time and India lost thier last series before storming in the finals. So should Pakistan and Australia be very concerned about the fact that they have lost thier last series before the World cup?

In a word - no.

But that doesn't mean you should play all prior series completely devoid of care.

NZ were rubbish before the '92 World Cup, and look how they went in that tournament.

A kiwi team choking in the semis? God, that's practically unheard of, isn't it?
