Haddin the bolter.

And Gilchrist's going to play that long?

And wasn't ODIs the subject-matter here? Not First-Class stuff.

Thought it was pretty much a public secret that Gilly wil lretire following the WC, no?

Saw Haddin play here in The Netherlands when he opened with Hayden. Solid player, good keeper too. Deserves the plane ticket, imo. It's not as if Hodge, White, Cosgrove or any other batsman has made a compelling case for inclusion. Might as well go with someone who's played at the top of the order in ODI's and can keep too.

Yeah, with Symonds in contention, one of White and Haddin will have to miss out.

Take the XI from the second CB series final, add in Haddin, White, Johnson and Clark/Tait and you have your 15, but Symonds will probably be in there too, which would probably mean Haddin misses out, the way things stand.

Ah, that'd seal it then. We can assume that the XI from the last match, Symonds and Johnson are certainties if there's any chance of Symonds being fit, and there will be one other seamer in there. So if Haddin is in, White is definitely out.

So does this mean that we'll really only have a squad of 13 for the first few matches, with Symonds and Gilchrist in the squad, but not available for selection?

Hope we don't have any injuries or it could get ugly.

CricInfo has the word now too. No Gilchrist for the matches against Scotland and The Netherlands. He probably looked at the schedule and thought: I'm not leaving home for that.

The news means that Brad Haddin will be announced as Australia's wicketkeeper for the warm-up matches and opening fixtures, when the 15-man squad is officially announced later on Tuesday. According to The Australian newspaper, Mike Hussey will take over the gloves in the event of an injury to Haddin. - From Cricinfo's article.

Bloody Mike Hussey. He'd probably bowl at the same time, too, if Brett Lee injured his foot stepping on his run-up marker.

Fantastic news Haddin will make the world cup ! So happy for him, he's been working so hard... I hope they will give him a go as an opener during the CH series with Hayden. We need an attacking opener next to the more conservative Hayden.

It wasn't a surprise for me personally. He has been performing good for NSW and was always an outside chance of playing.

Hopefully Haddin will do well in the CH series and the warmups and really put his hand up as a batting option for the main games
