Ricky Ponting and His Man Of the Match Award-Flawed Process

Once again ponting gets man of the match,
hayden deserved it more and you can tell that from their batting scores

Australia innings (50 overs maximum) R B 4s 6s SR
ML Hayden b Vettori 117 111 15 0 105.40
RT Ponting c Fulton b McMillan 111 122 8 1 90.98

This seriously puts this sort of process into question
He was also chosen player of the year in tests which many think was flawed
at this rate even if he hits a 50 and another player hits a 100 then he will still
get man of the match
and what about oram?
he took his team so close and he deserved it more than ponting too

Ponting's innings was much better and much more convincing really. Hayden was dropped three times - twice off very simple chances before he got to 5. He didn't look at all in control until he got to about 60 odd. It was a good innings no doubt - a hundred is a hundred. But Ponting's was by far a better innings overall and he thoroughly deserved the award.

Sure, fair effort getting up at 4am. Anyways, the MOM award never holds that much meaning really. It's arbitrary and shouldn't be looked into that much. I would have liked to see Oram get it tonight but Ponting still deserved it for a wonderful knock. Certainly doesn't deserve a thread for something this trivial.
