***Official*** West Indies in India

Therefore England wouldn't be the best example for composition of a bowling attack in ODIs. Seeing as most of them are rubbish. Don't know what you think I was insinuating, but I was attacking your opinion.
Attacking my opinion on what?

I was curious, without inferring any point at all, whether any team in world cricket had 5 genuine ODI bowlers. Without having to go check up on England's recent ODI teams, I thought seeing how Freddy plays as an allrounder in the team, yet his bowling capabilities are top notch, if England also played 4 specialist bowlers, or whether they played the extra batsman.

I wasn't putting their bowling attack/composition on a pedestal or anything.

I would vote for a 3-1 in West Indies favour. They will definately give a good account of themselves as they did last time they met.
The pitches will be quite different this time ,so discipline is paramount - both on and off the field.

Whatever it takes!!!
My team would look like this...

Gambhir
Tendulkar
Dravid
Ganguly
Yuvraj
Karthik
Dhoni
Harbhajan
Zaheer
Sreesanth
Munaf

Look how strong our fielding will be with this lineup, not to forget the energy coming from all the young legs. Also, obviously, I am picking them on form as well. This is just the lineup we need for an ODI, great mix of youth along with experience.
your fielding WONT be strong if you have Munaf in the side. Even if you have 10 Jonty Rhodes around him.

Whatever it takes!!!
Sachin
Sourav
Gambhir
Laxman
Dravid
Yuvraj/Badrinath
Kaarthick
Dhoni
Kumble
Harbhajan
Agarkar
Sreesanth
Zaheer
Gagandeep Singh/Joginder Sharma/Irfan Pathan

But I think we will lose 3-1, with 4-0 being a distinct possibility. :(

Hoping for a Lara special myself at Chennai, no matter what the result is. :)

Do you really think they will or should drop Munaf Patel? Since he's been our best one-day bowler of late, I would merely leave him out against the West Indies and tell him to regain fitness before mid-February. They can try him out against Sri Lanka and see if he'll be fit enough for the World Cup. Otherwise, we have worthy options in Gagandeep Singh, Joginder Sharma and RP Singh. Even at his current mediocre pace, Munaf can be a real asset in the World Cup because of his control with the ball provided that he is fully fit.

Uthappa or Gambhir as the reserve opener? Uthappa plays straight, has a Karthik-esque technique and has topped the FC run charts at an average of 66 and strike rate of 79. Gambhir is experienced and has made big runs in every opportunity since being dropped. Both are athletic in the field and both did relatively well in the Top End series in Australia. Uthappa would provide a right-handed option while Gambhir would allow for a straight swap with the likely opener Ganguly. Thoughts?

Yuvraj should be fit for the World Cup but I wouldn't count on him to play in this series. That said, the middle-order slots around Dravid boil down to Laxman, Kaif, Badrinath and Mongia. Laxman is experienced, classy and the Aussie-killer we may want in the ranks if we somehow get to the final against the champions again. Kaif is an underrated batsman who will fight in tough situations and a superb cover fielder. Badrinath has been ridiculously consistent in domestic and A-level cricket in recent times and is a brilliant, versatile fielder. Mongia is able with the bat, decent in the field and will definitely allow us to field a four-man attack, especially on the slow tracks of WI. There is a wild-card as well in Raina, who had a wretched time in the past few months but may grab some attention with another century in the final round of Ranji Trophy action. In form, he can rotate the strike and energize the fielding unit; most likely, his performance in South Africa will ensure that he will have to wait to make his comeback bid. Thoughts?

We will probably take four middle-order batsmen, three opening batsmen, two wicketkeepers, two spinners and four seamers to the World Cup.

There will probably be a toss-up for the all-rounder's role between Irfan Pathan and Joginder Sharma. The final round of Ranji Trophy will have huge implications and Pathan's role in the World Cup remains to be seen. In other news, Gagandeep Singh or RP Singh should also come into consideration as both have had success in domestic cricket lately.

I just heard on the news Munaf will not be playing in the next Ranji round. That could mean he will probably out for hte series too.

Sachin is also not going to play in Ranji, but thats probably to rest him...or he just doesn't want to play

Worthy options? Joginder Sharma has played 3 ODIs and taken 1 wicket. Gagandeep Singh averages over 33 in List-A cricket and has never played an ODI. You don't take uncapped players to the biggest tournament in cricket and call them worthy options.

RP Singh? He's pretty much been rubbish for a really long time now. His last 10 ODIs have seen him leak runs at 6.01 per over and take only 6 wickets. He averages 65.33 in the time. He's as worthy an option as Irfan Pathan right now.

In any case, why not try out Uthappa and Gambhir both out in this series? I don't much like Laxman in the one day game.

Gambhir
Tendulkar
Dravid
Uthappa
Karthik
Dhoni

Kumble/Bhajji
