Shopping for a new coach after the World Cup

Salamuddin

Looks like several sides maybe in the market for a new coach after the World Cup....

England, for example, are apparently very keen on Tom Moody to replace Fletcher as are Australia whereas SL are desperate to hold onto him.
I've heard and this is an interesting one that Woolmer is looking to leave Pakistan and head across the border to India, where Greg Chappell's contract is unlikely to be renewed.

I've also heard John Wright is in line for the NZ job and Tim Nielsen is still the favourite for Australia although CA are considering oher candiadtes.

So who would you like to see coach your team after the WC, the incumbent or someone new ?

I would say for Australia, Tom Moody. He has done a good job with a young SL Team that were struggling before he was appointed and i believe he will be the right man for the rebuilding stages of the next 5 years for Australian Cricket. Though to be honest i don't know how John Buchannen would perform in these times. Since being appointed in 1999 he has had the best team in the World and has never really been challenged by a more competetive team.

As a Sri Lankan, I know we have no chance of holding onto Moody, against the Big guys Australia , England or even India .

I hope and pray SL do their utmost to hold onto Trevor Penney though - he is the reason SL's fielding is vastly better than other teams over last 6 months.

If Moody leaves, we (SL) should try and get John Wright (if NZ do not give him a contract) or perhaps an Australian bowling specialist as coach ie Carl Rackemann, Jeff Thompson or even Troy Cooley .

LOL @ people firing Chappell after winning in WI after 35 years and recording first ever win in SA. Not that I have any respect for BCCI, but they will turn themselves into a permanant farce if they don't extend his contract.

Do you guys like Moody? He's an aussie, and generally I am not sure how the relations are. By all accounts he's a good coach, but how is he with the players?

Can you really blame the BCCI for ending his contract if India don't make it to the semis in the World Cup?

Of course I can. He's only done things in test cricket that no one has done before. But don't let that get in the way of the BCCI's insanity.

He is the 5th Aussie head coach, but we've had 100s of other Aussies involved in SL Cricket over the years in several ways....We've had Cricket Academy coach/ A team coach and Schools Coach mentor -all Aussies very recently ...but quite a lot of aussies have been involved in SL cricket in several ways and at different levels over the years.

In fact I think we are easily the Country which has utilised most Aussie coaches after Australia itself ...

Even now we have Ashley Mallet doing some work with SL Spin Academy on a project titled " Unearthing the Next Murali -spinning sensation for SL".

Moody by all accounts has struck a winning combination with Trevor Penney and Mahela - and the rest of the Team seem to getting along well with him .So at the moment things look very Rosey.

Yes. For once I agree with SS here, Chappell should stay based on the last few test series.

India would have to absolutely bomb out, and I mean really badly, in the WC, for Chappell to legitimately be removed IMO.

Believe it or not Chappell has in a way transformed Indian cricket and has no doubt made the side a better team. With his coaching, our players have become mentally stronger and a much better fielding side. He also makes a constant effort to improve the fitness and work ethic of many of the players in this Indian team.

India's, recent one day drought, wasn't solely because of bad coaching. And therefore there really is no reason to fire him.

And the fact that winning or drawing historic series means they shouldn't give a toss about how the one day team does.

You know, people actually do care about ODIs. Just because you don't doesn't mean they aren't important. I would seriously look at how India does in the World Cup and then see if he should be coach or not. tbh I don't want him to be coach.

Even if you're a typical ODI lover, if you can't see the importance of the series win in WI and hopefully a series win or tie in SA, then you're blind.

I can see the improtance of winning away from home series. But two away from home series is enough to wash out the rest of the crappy year India had?

Okay SS that's great that we're winning overseas and all, but you don't completely write off ODIs. They are important too. It's not a good mindset to get into. Does Australia ONLY care about Tests? No.

The World Cup, biggest stage in cricket, is played in ODIs... and therefore ODIs, imo, should be held with significance as well. Maybe not as much importance as you'de give Tests, but you'de want to be on top in both forms of the game.

Yeah. What if India have a crap ass world cup? Would you want to keep Greg in just because he got us a series win in WI, and so far a win in Saf?

I never said to care about tests, but I tell you what - WE NEVER WIN SERIES ABROAD. We're winning them now, and it would be the pinnacle of retardeness to call that a failure, regardless of what happens in ODI.
