Oh god don't remind me about Brett Lee, but I think he was helped by the fact that McGrath was applying large amounts of pressure at the other end.

Alot of onous is going to be put on Brett Lee now that he will effectively become #1 spearhead.

Have to disagree on that one. Everyone around here knows I'm a staunch critic of him continually being selected in the test squad despite his mediocre returns, however in ODI cricket I think his results are all down to him. He rarely goes for big runs in ODI anymore and regularly takes wickets and usually does the job required of him. I think the fact that Ponting calls on Lee in tight situations in ODIs is another good example of him being one of the best ODI bowlers in the world as he rarely does that in test cricket.

England squad picked, good to see Panesar in. But AFAIC, i've been going for Pothas to be picked for so long & they go & picked Paul Nixon as back-up. God damn it yo, Pothas offers more with the bat since & he can bat in the top-order, Nixon yea has a fair time for the foxes but he's like a older version of Read. Could have even called up Mascarenhas. England could really do with Simon Jones between now & the WC. Otherwise i can live with that squad.

Shocking side (Paul Nixon:laugh: ), KP aside I just can’t see anyone scoring runs consistently. Vaughan is/was useless in one day cricket, people may use the captain trump card but I vaguely remember us still being ****e with him at the helm.

Hard to make a decent line up out of that sixteen, at the end of the day, **** is **** no matter how one tries to dress it up but for argument sakes this would be my side…

I think NZ would have to play quite poorly to lose to that side...a shame, I enjoy watching England when they're playing well in ODIs (Champions Trophy 2004 was fantastic).

TT Boy - Dalrymple (sp) has been on of England`s rare ODI finds. Some good innings with bat and very tidy bowling.

Gilly and co will go after englands' bowling attack moreso than the nz attack who have bond,mills,vettori,styris if fit,oram very hittable tho.i would consider playing patel.
England should bat dalrymple in the top 6 and play panesar as well,the england bowling apart from lewis seems very loose indeed,no stu broad huge surpirse he impressed me when he played for england.
Question why did they pick nixon in front of steve davies i know priors' record is pittiful understand that.

NZ should feel relatively confident of beating England. Our test match form is dire at times but generally we can beat every other side except Australia in ODI's and aside from the poor semi match in the Champions Trophy, we played good cricket to beat Pakistan & South Africa.

Tremlett in for Plunkett and Vaughan opening for Bell his just a makeshift opener. Doesn't actually look that bad TBH apart from Anderson, but he can swing a white ball maybe.

With no Watson and Martyn, you'd imagine two places in the side would be up for grabs. Jaques and Hayden fighting it out for the second opening spot, and White and Hopes to bat at 7 and bowl a few overs. I can't see them going back to Hayden again, so Jaques and Hopes would be ahead, I'd imagine. White's had a great run this season too though, and I'd rather see him at 7. Hopes will never be anything more than a handy ODI player IMO, whereas White could be genuinely good, particularly if his bowling improves a bit. And more to the point, Hopes would be better served batting in the top 5 than coming in at 7.

Because of that, another possibility would be Hopes in as an opener as a direct swap for Watson, and Voges or Cosgrove or someone in as a specialist batsman.
