Hi all,

New to the site and wondered whether you cricket lovers could help me.

I have found some old cricket autograghs and bits in the loft and want to know if there is a place in the UK where I can get them valued.

Your help would be appriecated.

Without wanting to sound too market orientated, if you put them on ebay they should find their market value.

The true value is what someone is prepared to pay not what someone says they are worth.

Stick a high reserve on ebay, that you would be surprised if they bid, and see what the highest bid is. Thats your value.

"Some old cricket autographs" is too vague to be able to offer help. If they're Derek Pringle and Phil Edmonds they're worth squat, on the other hand if they're WG Grace and Jack Hobbs they're too precious to risk on eBay and should be sold at a specialist auction.

Yeah exactly. I don't think ebay is a particularly good measure of the value of particularly rare or significant items. Certainly if it's just a poster you got signed by McGrath at the cricket you'd be fine putting it on ebay, but if it's something genuinely rare I'd have it professionally valued and then look to sell them at auction, where you'll have a better cross-section of potential buyers and certainly get a better price.

The same is true of any sort of collectible or antique. A good evaluation should be an approximate auction price, not just an arbitrary number with no connection to "what people will actually pay".

You might also want to try J W Mackenzie of 12 Stoneleigh Park Rd, Ewell, Epsom Surrey KY19DQT. They mostly do rare book etc. but they'd probably be able to point you the right way.

Bradman used to use them for his cricket library, apparently.

My Grandmother has a bat signed by the entire English and Australian Ashes sides on 195?, should be worth a few.

£150 at least i'd reckon - you should get it certified - stacks of fakes around these days because of ebay etc!

Well it's genuine, so that should be ok.

I wouldn't dream of selling it in normal circumstances, I was just wondering, tis all.
