All time spinner ratings (rankings by Silentstriker) - NEW METHOD

Also the whole rating each country equally thing is rubbish. I can understand why away record is considered important, but your going to play half your games at home anyway, how could that only factor in 1/8 of the overall record.
Yea, because this isn't designed to produce the best overall spinner. I went in to with the goal of figuring out who is the most consistent performer overseas, something that I personally rate as being important.

Where's MacGill, surely he's be in the top 10 ????
He'd be at #6, I didn't put him on the list due to the exceptional circumstances (ie only playing on obviously spinning wickets).

You've got to be kidding :-O What about the tests he played when Warne was injured, what about when Warne was out for a year on his *cough* Mum's advice, what about when he played in tandem with Warne and outbowled him, need I go on......

....yeah actually I do, that means every spinner on your list that was the 2nd spinner in a team should be removed as obviously you only play 2 spinners on spin friendly tracks, heck you may as well exclude all of the Pakistan and Indian games in that case........

Nope, thats why I actually ranked him.

That's a bit objective isn't it, not putting MacGill in. Here's a radical call that had he been an English player, he would have taken 400+ wickets.

But I did rate him, he comes in at around #6.

Most wickets today are batsmens paradises compared to wickets 40 years ago.

I think it's a fairly wild assumption that uncle Duncan would have chosen him, he would have had to compete with spinners like Salisbury who could bat one place higher in the order.:)

I agree, Salisbury has a higher batting average than Warne........... Close call really.

How does Giles rate ahead of anyone?
As a role player he really isnt that bad. It is as a matchwinner and main bowler that he is poor. Now I do not rate Giles as a bowler at all, especially when selected as a specialist but he can do a role and 'IF' he averaged 40 with the bat would be a good player.

In all honesty, Id put him along side guys like Emburey and Im not surprised he ranks above Qadir. The formula doesnt take wickets per test into the equation or roles within a team and Qadir generally performed much better with 12 teammates. He also had a very high profile as he was one of the better spinners during a world wide quality spinner drought.

Great work as always S_S - not to say I would have them ranked in the same order (surprised to see Grimmett come in ahead of O'Reilly actually) but that's not the point, is it - it's a bit of fun and you've put in a truckload of work, as usual.

I'd be interested to see how Hugh Trumble would rate on here, though his rating might be skewed by only playing against two countries, and in an era when ball clearly dominated bat.
