Sure asif and akhtar have been acquitted of thier offense, but their gonna live with the tag of being cheats for the rest of their lives and thats a fact, and that includes even if they actually were innocent in the first place, akhtar is probably gonna play 1 year and retire anyway, and hes going to face being labeled a cheat every step of the way, especially if he actually performs well over the rest of the career, there is no doubt that people will forget this episode, they wont, this whole episode has severely damaged the bowlers reputation for life, even though they have now been acquitted, the fingers will still be pointed and they still will be labeled cheats by most for the rest of their lives

that in it self is more then enough punishment, had they actually did commit the offence in the first place

By that rationale, once you find somebody guilty of anything there's no need to punish them further. So would you prefer that rapists and murderers (carrying it to its logical extreme) be punished solely by having people mentally condemn them?

Having people retain doubts about you is the downside of beating charges on a technicality rather than by actually proving your innocence.

WTF? This thread is a joke. You are being nothing but bias. If Akthar goes around killing people would you still defend him and say he will live his life being called a murderer so he should be let off the hook?

What about Cronje? Do you disagree with him being banned from Cricket for match fixing and him being called a cheat for his whole life?

comparing someone who had minimal levels of a substance in thier body to rapist and murderers is obsurd, plus its not like they were prooven guilty, if they actaully did commit the crime knowingly then they deserved to be punished for what ever limit, im just saying that since they were accused, even if they actually are innocent, they will continued to be wrongly targeted.

but if they arent, then they deserve it and deserve a ban

No, if they were exonerated they wouldn't be called cheats. They weren't though, they were let off on a technicality. I've got no problem with he decision made, but you can't possibly expect people to pretend that it means they didn't take the substances in question. They still tested positive.

Then please give me one reason why Akthar never wanted to get a re-test and just decide to leave India during the CT? If he was so confident and didn't take any drugs like he said he did, he should have agreed to the test being taken again. That's a clear indication that he was afraid to take the test again because he did take drugs.

I have nothing against Pakistani Cricket or their Cricketers, but PCB is just full of bull**** and nothing else.

It was an example to show what I think is wrong with your logic. The test came back positive - so the weight of available evidence says they were guilty. Now there are concerns about the conditions the tests were conducted in, which creates some reasonable doubt that they may not have been guilty, but which doesn't disprove their guilt. On the balance of probabilities, as opposed to a standard of proof to satisfy a court, you'd still say it was most likely they did have the gear in their system. The issue of whether they knew what they were consensually taking contained a banned substance is irrelevant to the question of their guilt or innocence - it might mitigate their culpability for their guilt, but doesn't change it.

How they've escaped punishment here is very different from having the "B" samples tested and finding they were negative, or having proof that somebody tampered with the samples, rather than not being able to categorically prove someone DIDN'T tamper with them. These tests aren't actually that complicated for a trained professional - the results are almost certainly right. What's missing is the integrity of the evidence handling process to allow us to stand with hands on hearts and say "there is only one explanation for the contents of that sample". It's an important point which is why people have cases overturned on technicalities, but its not proof of innocence.

Exactly fact that he didn't want to do the re-test shows they knew what they had. The whole i didn't know such and such is banned substance is such a piss poor excuse. Whats more ridiculous and laughable is that they actually got off on that.

maybe he was advised by his lawyers to not do so, but even in that case it was stupid of him to deny it

They'll be cheats because they are cheats. Simple really.

4. The Malaysian laboratory first informed the PCB on 12.10.06, that of the 19 samples, 2 had tested positive for banned substances. On 17.10.06, the same laboratory confirmed that the two samples contained 19-Norandrosterone, greater than the threshold of 2 ng/ml. On 19.10.06, PCB was informed that the sample pertaining to Shoaib Akhtar was found to contain 19-Norandrosterone of 14.06 ng/ml while the sample pertaining to Muhammad Asif was found to contain 19-Norandrosterone of 13.07 ng/ml.

They may not say they took it, but the lab does.
