Fielding positions

Arjun

How can you find regular fielding positions of players, international or domestic? Or rather, where can you find them? CricInfo only mentions fielding positions for wicketkeepers, but not others.

I nower days game, very few people have specific fielding positions (except slips and gully), because no fields are alike. On a rare occasion, Cricinfo does offer fielding positions in the profile (Allan Border being one), but in general it isn't logged on Cricinfo.

Fields are usually varied, for example Matthew Hayden is 1st slip to Shane Warne but usually in the gully for the fastmen.

Backing Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Piyush Chawla, Sreesanth and VRV Singh.

India needs Laxman more than ever before . . .

Still?

Actually, I don't have any better ideas at the moment. So sadly, you might have the best one.

What do you mean?

If you're referring to me backing those young talents, there's no reason not to do so. They're all very good prospects and should play for India in the (near) future.

If you're referring to Laxman ... yeah he blew it in the ODI but he remains a class act and one of our best options.

By watching the games.
That is, if you can watch the games, which isn't the case with Indian domestic cricket or even in the NZ domestic scene. However, going by the type of player at hand, you get an idea where they're likely to field. For instance, we find batting mainstays of a team fielding in slips, fast bowlers fielding at midwicket, long-on or long-off, most one-day specialists at point, and the fastest runners riding the outfield.

Dravid

International Captain
I know a few of the bat. Dravid usually is at slip. Ponting is at slips sometimes too. Inzi is at the food court. Sehwag sometimes fields in the same position as Inzi.

Fleming and Styris are NZ's two best slippers while Vincent is in the covers and Marshall at point.
