Captain of 1966-85 World Test XI

This is a 3-day poll to select the captain of the 1966-85 World XI now (as it's obvious that Hadlee will win the final bowler slot).

Captain citeria is that the player must have won a test as captain of their country during the period.

Greg Chappell: 48 Tests, W21 (44%) – D14 (29%) - L13 (27%) --- bat ave 55.38 as captain
Sunil Gavaskar: 47 Tests, W9 (19%) – D30 (64%) - L8 (17%) --- bat ave 50.72 as captain
Viv Richards: 6 Tests, W2 (33%) – D4 (67%) - L0 (0%) --- bat ave 59.57 as captain
Gary Sobers: 34 Tests, W7 (21%) – D18 (53%) – L9 (26%) --- bat ave 62.27 as captain

The 1966-85 World Test XI

1. Sunil Gavaskar (50.67)
2. Gordon Greenidge (49.14)
3. Viv Richards (54.02)
4. Greg Chappell (53.86)
5. Gary Sobers (59.10) (bowl: 32.62)
6. Ian Botham (36.13) (bowl: 26.37)
7. + Alan Knott (32.75)

9. Malcom Marshall (17.77) (bowl: 22.11)
10. Dennis Lillee (13.71) (bowl: 23.92)
11. Derek Underwood (11.56) (bowl: 25.83)

Sobers for me. Seeing the way Greg Chappel has been to some of the Indian players, I am not convinced by his man management skills.

I wouldn't vote for any of them. Greg Chappel - great batsman but horrible cheat. Sunil Gavaskar - Not a great record and he precided over the awful series against England when he managed to slow it down to 9 overs an hour. Viv Richards - Wasn't captain long enough during the period. Garry Sobers - wasn't highly regarded as a captain and some West Indians never forgave him for throwing away a Test Match by declaring and setting England a very generous target.

Chappell for me. I would of gone with Viv but he didn't captain enough during 1966-86.

Chappell. Best strike rate in terms of wins of the choices listed. Viv or Sobers as vice, not fussed really.

Chappell was a disgrace as far as captaincy goes. It should go to Viv more for lack of choice than anything.

Not much to choose from there! I was never overly impressed by GSC as a captain tbh. Lets give it to one of the bowlers; 'Deadly' for mind
