Yuvraj Singh doubtful for World Cup

The middle-order batsman is likely to require surgery for the torn ligament in his left knee. Andrew Leipus, former physio of the Indian team, has stated that the recovery process generally takes four months and Yuvraj will be "touch-and-go" for the World Cup if he indeed requires surgery. A final assessment with BCCI Dr. Anant Joshi is scheduled for November 13.

Yuvraj has been India's best one-day batsman over the past year and he has matured immensely of late. His absence in the middle-order means that Raina, Mongia and Kaif will have to step up big time and that the services of VVS Laxman may be called upon. Yuvraj is also likely to miss the tests in South Africa, which will give Kaif an opportunity to bat at #6 whenever India (sensibly) plays six specialist batsmen.

Let's hope for a speedy recovery.

Ligament injury is one of the worst injuries . I tore my ankle almost 3 months ago while bowling and I still cannot run or do any proper exercise because it hurts like hell and especially in this winter and I have to cover the ankle all the time . Ligaments are not that fragile but once disturbed or bruised badly then take a long time to recover. I feel sorry for Yuvraj because it was such a nice time for him to bat and he was going amazing and he was the best ODI batsman for India in the recent times.Wish him to get well soon and get back to the game with the same spectacular form !!!!

Whatever it takes!!!
I wish this doesn't happen but then again, it might be better to take someone who has played competitive cricket to the WC than a rusty Yuvraj. We saw how bad he was in the DLF cup.

Laxman deserves another chance to score 3 tons in 7 days. He missed the 2003 WC, let him play the 2007 one damn it.

Yuvi will be missed though, gun ODI batsman.

VVS is going through almost the same patch from which Atapatu was passing earlier on in his career . The defensive technique of VVS is just great but I dunno wtf is going wrong with him !!!

Fully agree with hb that Yuvraj should only return for the World Cup if he'll have ample time to get his groove back before the tournament. Otherwise, he might just hamper the team.

Bring back Laxman!!!

Huge blow for India, the inform batsman is out of the team. I'm pretty sure Vangipurappu Venkata Sai Laxman will be the replacement for Yuvraj most likely in the World Cup squad.

For the A team, sure. For the World Cup, hell no!
Why not? Mithun's got a List-A average over 50, which is very rare in India. There's not much to expect out of the likes of Hemang Badani, Dinesh Mongia and Venugopal Rao, who have been preferred ahead of him repeatedly. Vidyut averages close to 40 at a strike rate over 90, and is a reasonably good spinner to even replace a specialist at times, and a much better bowler than Mongia and Sehwag. Both have a very strong case for national selection, especially for ODI's.
