Afridi has been different things to different people over time depending upon whether you are a Pakistani fan, an Indian fan (in an Indo Pak match), a Pakistani skipper/senior player or someone bowling to him. However all this seems to have changed. Permanently ? Who knows? Do You?

Here is your chance to vote as to what should be done to Afridi. Its all for fun so do vote :)

PS : Please consider his performance purely as batsman

Siberia it is.

On a serious note, once Inzy returns I don't see a place for Afridi in the team.

While it would be a very good idea to send him to Siberia he is far too talented, he just needs to be sent back to domestic cricket and perhaps somebody from up high needs to put the hard word on him to improve his attitude because he definately looks pretty casual at the moment.

When Inzamam returns the Pakistan ODI team should look like this;

Farhat
Hafeez
Younis
Yousuf
Inzamam
Malik
Razzaq
Akmal
Rana
Gul
Iftikhar

Just no room for him really until he bucks up his ideas.

If it wasn't for his bowling I'm pretty sure he wouldn't even be in the squad. His batting his pathetic. It's okay if he hits the ball hard, but you should look where you hit the ball. He doesn't, instead he just swings the bat and prays it doesn't go to the field. He never looks to play the ball away from the fielder which is his biggest weakness. He is a great hitter of the ball, he just needs to start paying attention to the field.

Regardless of what I feel regarding Afridi being in the team, this is a ludicrous way to approach it. You select a player seeing what he brings to the team from all angles - batting, bowling and fielding and taking every thing into perspective which includes match winning capabilities, reliability and what not.

He is too good to be dropped.
Gun post imo

Seriously though, sending him to siberia would be about right, 1 case where experience has counted for so little. So often pakistan are in dire straights, and out comes Shahid "Have a Swing my Friend" Afridi, and chucks away his wicket. The Wow factor simply doesn't cut it anymore.

He's an interesting case isn't he

He is without doubt, out of form with the bat. The encouraging thing however, is that he's getting himself out, more than the bowler getting him out. This is encouraging, because it means he has the ability to bat.

Something has taken the spark out of Shahid Afridi. He seems to have lost interest in the game, for whatever reason. He retired from test cricket... a very shock decision at the time, but something's not right with him. He looks very casual now, and does not seem to be placing any importance in his cricket. It could be something as simple as too much cricket, or it could be much more. With the internal politics of pakistani cricket, anything is to be expected.

The openers have really struggled of late, so i'd throw him up to open a few times and see how he fares... as a pure batsman, he does not have a spot in the team.

As an all rounder, he is hanging on in my opinion. Even his bowling, which provided spark, is now nothing special.

Woolmer needs to work out why he's lost his spark, and get it back.

He can win you games from nowhere, he needs to stay

6 months back he was in the form of his life and everybody thought he would be Pakistan's biggest weapon at the WC.

I wouldn't wanna see him dropped tbh since he is very capable of keeping in tight as a bowler in ODIs, as a batsman I think I'll go for dropping him for a little while. Overall, I say drop him when Inzi comes back, as the rest of the team has performed at one point or another. Arafat deserves more chances than him anyway.

IRC he is still only 26.

As part of a drive to promote and improve world standards, a fund should be setup to pay him lots of money to move to and qualify for Zim/Holland/Ireland/Scotland/USA etc (insert one).

He would be 30 by the time he qualified and the thing Afridi does best is garner publicity and excitement. These are areas essential for the game to grow.

Shahid "Global Game Grower" Afridi :p

I think part of the reason he is such a wasted talent is due to Pakistan team management's failure to harness his talent.

As I wrote before, drop him for a short period. It might give him a kick up the ass and make him realise that NO-ONE is indispensible. PS - but is he really 26? People thought Waqar was older than his started birth-date..why not Afridi?

Hafeez has done nothing to suggest he's capable of succeeding at ODI cricket. Play him a specialist spinner and move him up or down the order as necessary.

Regarding Afridi, send him to England and let him qualify. He's better than half their ODI batsmen and all their ODI bowlers, bar Lewis.

Tongue-in-cheekish...

i think afridi needs to be motivated thats all. i think the best way to motivate him is send him to open again in onedays matches, maybe him batting down the order is not motivating for him

I have to disagree with this. Successive regimes, coaches, and captains have all tried to work with him. They did so even with Afridi's maddening inconsistency, because they realized when he clicks he's got awsome talent. I think the blame for not honing his talent lies squarely with Afridi. He's too resistent to changing his style, or at least modifying it in certain situations.
