Good side Archie. What about Arthur Mailey as 12th man?"

I often wondered what those "other reasons were with Barnes.

Not my side, but yes AM would be a good choice :)

Barnes took the ACB (not known as that then) to court, the reasons were pretty poor: off the top of my head (I can look them up if you would like)

1. Filming the King during the 1948 tour without permission (he did in fact have permission)

2. Luring the 12th man in a tour match in England off to play tennis

3. Jumping the turnstiles (spelling) at the MCG (I think) he had given his players pass to a friend and the guard would not let him in, even though he was batting at the time!

He's GOT to be in the side!

A top side, no Indian players? I remember reading about an Indian player (I can't think of his name) who was hit in the mouth and had some teeth knocked out, he brushed his lost teeth off the pitch with his bat and continued batting.

Where is SJS when you need him.

 7 Aussies and 3 English, where's all the subcontinent characters?

An English XI may look like:

1. WG Grace
2. Geoff Boycott
3. Deryk Randell
4. Dennis Compton
5. Tony Greig
6. Ian Botham
7. Freddie Flintoff
8. Jack Russell
9. Darren Gough
10. ??? (sorry again one short)
11. Monty Panesar

You can't have a "Characters XI" without Tuffers!

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Dermot Reeve - apparently the only person that Imran Khan allowed to impersonate him. Should have captained the England ODI side, if you ask me.

Sir Viv Richards is definitely a character, and what about Wasim Raja?

I'm not quite sure why people think Panesar is a character. He is a very fine bowler, and seems to be a really nice guy, but not really extrovert or any of that. In effect, he seems like quite a normal feller, apart from having a huge beard, and being a bloody good bowler.
