    Long-lost twins

I was thinking about the way in which some players can strongly resemble players of another era or country and the kinds of parallels you can draw between the careers, styles, and abilities of otherwise unconnected players.

I thought it might be interesting to suggest some instances of this and that it might generate some good conversation to see whether people agree with the comparisons or not.

    I've thought of two examples.

    Imran Khan and Keith Miller:
    - Both the premier all-rounders of their era.
    - Both top-notch right hand quicks, and potentially explosive lower-order bats.
    - Both the pin-up boys of their generation of players, in terms of appeal to the opposite sex.
    - Both made an impact in the broader game of life, beyond cricket: Miller as a war hero and Khan as a politician.

    Darren Gough and Merv Hughes:
    - Both carried their countries pace attacks in the absence of a genuine great.
    - Both probably most respected and famed for their competitive combativeness and their heart
    - As a consequence, both probably underrated in terms of actual abilty.
    - Both have starred in reality TV shows: - dancing with stars for gough and celebrity makeover for merv

Another example is Hadlee and Muralitharan, but I don't think it counts as they have in common that they were the sole world class players in their teams, and carried their attacks, and both held the record for most dismissals, but they are completely different kinds of player.

Anyone else got any other ones?

    Steve Waugh and Mark Waugh

    - Both share the same parent's names (Bev Waugh and Rodger Waugh)
    - Both born on the same day (June 2, 1965)
    - Both played FC cricket for NSW
    - Both played Test cricket for Australia
    - Both could bat a bit

Just because its a thread that doesn't involve picking elevens or repercussions of the ball-tampering thingy there's no need to criticise!

    Boycott & Sutcliffe

    Both from Yorkshire
    Both openers
    Both had limitations as batsman
Both had supreme confidence in their own ability
    Both bored supporters to tears
Both were great in a back to the wall contest

"Ah but I do enjoy a dogfight" (Herbert Sutcliffe)
    You know it makes sense.

    Abdul Razzaq and Azhar Mahmood:

    - Both Pakistani allrounders
    - Both staked their claims as bowlers who could bat a bit
    - Both had the eyes of the nation on them when they turned in initial matchwinning performances
    - Neither was retained as a long-term Test player
    - Both were/are extremely valuable in one-dayers
    - Both are more famous for their performances away from home

OH! You know what would be a real family reunion.

An army of NZL dibbly dobblers and England's bits and pieces throughout the 90's.
